Got vintage?

if an ABS or glass fairing has a stress crack, CF mat will significantly add strength without thickness. CF is only expensive because people want the aesthetic. When they weave the mat, visual blemishes can't be used and this matting is pretty cheap to buy.

The only issue with CF mat is that you must wear an N95 mask when working with it -there have been people diagnosed with lung cancer who had CF particles in their lungs.

There is a great documentary about John Britton and an interview where he points out his entire V-twin bike uses CF, and it only cost him $200. (however, the first girder fork broke while testing).

Hey CafeRay. Where do you get hold of the CF that has the blemishes? I have a few spots on my glass fairing that would benefit from some CF repair.

Thanks.

This happens to me as well. Tried to post some pics but it would not allow it. same error message.

Looks like it's fixed now....but since I've already uploaded 2 pictures, and they equal 160kb (which is nothing...), I can't upload another one or it will exceed my quota on here, so it won't let me!! lol What the ****....

I'll just link from my flickr images.... here's my 86 FZ600. My very first motorcycle! I'm 31 and just picked it up 3 months ago...right before the snow hit. I can't believe I waited this long to try riding....but glad I found it now while I'm still "young". :D Every single time I start it up I smile, and I don't stop smiling until I pull it back in the garage.....it's just crazy fun.

FZ 600 is a sweet bike as I recall. Used at FAST school Shannonville late '80s. Hard to believe it could be improved upon.

Very nice Rye! Riding is in your blood now. You'll never be be able to 'scratch that itch enough'. Lol

I should have my bike done sometime in the spring. Maybe we can hook up for a ride. There are some good twisties by your neck of the woods (along the lake between Dover and Turkey Point).

I haven't ridden consistently for almost 20 yrs, so I'll be a new rider (again) as well.

Thanks guys! I got lucky with this bike... it didn't start when I bought it...battery was shot, spark plugs were wired wrong and some were hand tight in the engine... fixed everything up and I was just like DAMN when I first took it out on the real roads...and not just riding in circles in my new construction survey, which was the perfect place to learn!

For sure Jeff! I'm totally hooked! I'm down for some rides but I'll be moving back to the Hamilton area as my wife starts nursing school in January, so we're moving just as soon as we sell our house. Going to miss it out here but it's all part of the bigger and better plan.

I actually like the roads East of Port Dover, they are much more fun...but really either way you go you can't lose!

No worries about moving. Like you said - all part of the plan. I'm in Brantford, so either way I'm close by.

For sure! Went to school in Brantford for Graphic Design quite a few years ago....

Here's another vintage FZ, when my brother-in-law saw what I got he was SO jealous..he had the exact bike back when he was in his 20's (he's 40 now), and I found him one...and picked it up for him (made him pay for it, but I did all the leg work lol).

I'm jealous of his original graphics package....the guy who had mine had friggin pink stripes on it that I almost immediately covered up with black.

Anywho, here's my brother-in-law's FZ600!

I feel triumphant. I recently got my 1965 Honda Superhawk running, and I took it for a 50-mile ride today. Understand, I am in Florida, so my ride was very pleasant, and the bike ran like a champ.

I have a lot of work to do, and the bike doesn't look like new, and it never will, but it will look a lot better than it does now, and probably work a lot better than it does now. My next task is to improve the brakes, because my modern bikes stop a whole lot better than the 48-year-old CB-77, and its original brakes were really very good, being double-leading shoe. I reckon there is a lot of dirt I need to clear out of the hub.

Great bike. 88fz6 was my second bike back when I was 18ish. Really enjoyed it.

Anyone else drooling over the 70 Norton for sale posted on GTAM? I could almost sell my Muffin for that.

i got my own problems

If it is clean and runs good that is a nice deal. The hydraulic brake, if a Norton item would be from a later year but a worthwhile upgrade.

I am not yet prepared to post photographs, but I will in the spring.

Meanwhile, that CB-160 in Richmond Hill looks terrific. It has obviously not been abused. I have no idea what you would use it for, but it will surely carry you to Muskoka or London or even Ottawa in style. The price is perhaps a tad high, but if you consider the bike as an investment which you will one day sell, it is reasonable. You can have a fine ride that people will admire, and make a profit when you sell it, provided you take proper care of it.

What better use do you have for your time this winter?

Use it for MotoGiro-USA?
