Got vintage?

Prob something more like these.....
I like the red stripe look better.

A friend offered me a rd400 a couple of years back, thought long and hard about it, a bit too long as someone else snagged it!
Here's a pic of it... looks kinda like the one in the pic above.

Love that! Looks like a beefy nsr mc16.
Can't wait to see the new version.

I actually modeled the paint job after the NSR - good catch. The solo seat is from an RS250.

Beefy it's not - at least from the back. Still has that whimpy 130 (biggest I could squeeze in there) tire.

The butt end looks beefy now with that 180 tire on it. It'll probably handle like a tank now that I've increased the trail substantially (longer swinger, less fork offset, etc)

Aw man, you missed on that one. I'd love to have that one.

What are you riding now? Sorry, what do you have stored in the garage/shed now? :) TZR?

Yes, split the time between my rg350 gamma and the tzr250.
Hoping to have another 2stroke on the road this summer.
Not sure if these are 'vintage' but here's some pics of the two

For sure they're vintage.

What's up with the new fairing on the TZR - for the track? I can't see if it has a headlight in it.

Yamagamma still running strong?

Love 90's gp replicas, so both bike's are getting new fairings of that era.
That's a TZ250 carbon/kevlar track fairing that I still need to cut a headlight hole for.
That fairing will do double duty for both street and track once it's all set up.

The yammagamma is running great, just needs a fine tune at the pilots, but I've also got a set of 34mm Mikuni carbs that I'm thinking about trying...

Is the carbon/Kevlar supposed to hold up better? Sounds like a good choice. Hopefully worth the extra $$ I know that gone good crash with my glass fairings and they'd be toast.

34mm bores for the Gamma - man, that's HUGE. Is you motor heavily ported? I would think 34's would be good for an Athena 421 kit or a big bore aftermarket kit. I'd be worried that the fuel velocity would drop considerably with the larger carbs.

Truthfully, I'm not sure how the carbon/kevlar will hold up.
Compared to a few other track fairings I've got - it's lighter, thinner, and seems more flexible.

The rz350 cylinders are stage 2 race port with a shaved head. I got the 34mm carbs for cheap in prep for a banshee big bore conversion, but I may go down the stroked crank route with these cylinders. The person I bought the cylinders from said they ran on bigger carbs and really woke up the engine. Still undecided... but kinda want to test them on my current setup to see if I'd get any gains. As long as I don't blow it up!

1. Hell yeah, I used to dream about that Katana. That bike was back when one designer was allowed to have a vision, now all Japanese bikes are designed by comittees on CAD, which is why they all look the same. There is currently a competition to see who can design the ugliest headlight and exhaust. I really hate how Japanese manufacturers still copy expensive euro bikes and fake it ( I.e. inverted gold forks that are not Ohlins).
2. Carbon fairings are still going to crack in a crash, and repair is not as easy as glass. CF patches in resin at glass fairing mount points will prevent stress cracks. CF matt with visual blemishes is cheap, and can be resined into the back of a glass fairing.

You were smoking Rob Ford...that was a huge miss.

Funny you mentioned this....it's exactly how carboncat repaired my silver R6 fairings

I tried to post a picture of my 86 FZ600 but every time I try to upload a photo to this site I get this error, so I gave up:

if an ABS or glass fairing has a stress crack, CF mat will significantly add strength without thickness. CF is only expensive because people want the aesthetic. When they weave the mat, visual blemishes can't be used and this matting is pretty cheap to buy.

The only issue with CF mat is that you must wear an N95 mask when working with it -there have been people diagnosed with lung cancer who had CF particles in their lungs.

There is a great documentary about John Britton and an interview where he points out his entire V-twin bike uses CF, and it only cost him $200. (however, the first girder fork broke while testing).

yeah... still kicking myself on that one.
Also passed up a rz500, not sure that was a smart move either. :(

Thanks for the info on the carbon fairings too.

You missed out on a 500 as well - aaaaah. I'd be really kicking myself for missing out on one of those.
