ok, Ive read over this thing, and now im finding out your kid is 16.

So the 16 yr old kid, downloaded games, and now you are footing the bill , and are ****** about it.. Simple solution, punish the kid, make him pay the bill. Saying your Son isnt to blame is Stupid, because clearly he is, What if he downloads Music to his phone ? is that the Cell companies fault ? what if he downloads anything, is that their fault ? Simple Solution dude, take off the data plan on his phone. What if he orders Porn on your TV, or orders a PPV event at home.. You going to ***** and moan to the cable company that you didnt authorize it ?

its cut and dry on this one. you gave a phone to your Kid. Your Kid did something wrong, You deal with the kid, not with the 3rd party that only did what the Kid asked them to do
maybe if you spent some time being an actual parent, instead of arguing with anyone and everyone on GTAM, this kind of problem might not have happened.
maybe spend some time with your Kid, before they get sick of not having a parent and decide they dont need one anymore and leave

truth

Maybe you should read it again. It's obvious your reading is lacking. You took the time to post this ****, but your didn't take the time to read it properly.

^ Where did you see that?

[h=3]Smartphone customers benefit from click-to-pay operator billing experience – even using Wi-Fi[/h]http://news.bango.com/2009/07/29/bango-wi-fi-on-bill-payment/

I think it was on Google play.

You really don't have a clue in life. What you're comparing is stupid. If he speeds the ticket affects him not me, the cell being billed affects me, it's my account and they have no right allowing them to bill it without contacting me. It's my name on the account not his, so they should have to verify with me that it's ok to use cell billing for Google. It's obvious you have no kids, and that's good for society in my opinion.

Dude, your name on the account just means you assume liability for whatever the users of YOUR phones and lines do.

16, but all the charges were from a so called free game. Free means free, just as no means no.

Games are free, but you can purchase items IN the game to make the game easier. I believe the term is Free to Buy.

He didn't think a free game was going to bill the phone. The only other options were cc and gift card so since he didn't have either, he had to pick bill phone. I'm more ****** that Rogers refuses to block that at my request.

See my above answer.

You really have to stop being so defensive of your kid accepting to "charge phone number". Just because it was free to download it does not mean they don't charge latter.

Nigerians don't have customer support...

I think you guys are missing the point. I don't want that option on my account, but Rogers refuses to block it. I should have the right to have it removed, and if it happens again I'm exercising my right to switch cell providers.

You should read over the terms of your contract with Rogers then. If they don't have a provision for third-party billing you're absolutely in the right. If they do or it's not mentioned then that's another thing.

Would probably be helpful to other Rogers subscribers as well.

That said it seems to me that Rogers did indeed make the decision to allow third-party billing to subscribers through them. You may be out of luck here. Maybe try the CRTC

Way nicer than mine - dad would have kicked my *** if I even made a long distance phone call without asking.

And made me pay for it.

For supported mobile networks, you have the option to purchase Android apps on Google Play using direct carrier billing. Purchases made using direct carrier billing will be posted directly to your mobile billing account after the 15-minute return period expires.

Making a purchase with direct carrier billing

Locate the Android app you’d like to purchase on Google Play, and tap the blue rectangle that contains the price.
Select the option to bill to your mobile account from the drop-down menu.
Tap Accept & buy.
If you’ve used carrier billing before, you’re done! Your app will begin to download.
If required, add your address information in the space provided.
Tap OK.
Confirm your address information on the verification screen, making any necessary corrections.
Tap Accept & Buy.
Note that going through the setup flow to use carrier billing will register you for a Google Wallet account for the Google Account you’re using.

Additional information on Google Wallet.

Missing carrier billing option

All of the following must be true for you to see carrier billing as an option:

You must be using your carrier’s network (3G/4G), not wireless.
You must purchase from Google Play on your device, not on the web.
You must be in good standing with your carrier and have not exceeded your carrier’s cap on monthly spending.
Your device/service plan must be opted in for premium content purchases.
Your device must be provisioned for use with direct carrier billing.
Direct carrier billing cancellations

Direct carrier billing purchases that do not receive a successful authorization from your mobile provider will be immediately cancelled. For more information about the reason for the failed authorization, please contact your mobile service provider.

sounds like your son went through quite a bit of steps to activate this feature. At the age of 16 please educate him to read his terms and conditions; playing the ignorance card is not always going to work.
My three year old knows you need money to buy apps when it prompts for a password in the App Store. She understands you need internet or wifi to download or update her apps. So I find it hard to believe your 16 year old doesn't know what he was doing when he was clicking buy. Before you switch providers, or post in here again, give him a smack across the head.

Knowing how tech savvy most 16 year olds are I find it hard to believe your kid didn't know it would bill them. Almost all F2P (F2P) games have in app purchases now(that prompt and say you will be billed x dollars are you sure). If he selected the open for bill to phone then he knew that something was going to happen or we wasn't paying attention. I don't disagree that these F2P games are a little scammy especially on the ones that I have you cant even progress in the game without spending a small fortune on buying gems, stars or smurfberries i think some consumer regulation is probably required on this on games that are target towards younger children.

The way phones are integrated in the next few years such as using them to buy items linking them to you credit cards and even the option of using them as a debit card with billing going directly on your bill rogers are probably reluctant or possibly unable to disable these features. But all these features are able to be blocked at the cell phone level.

You should take a lesson this this. You should teach your son how easy it is to buy things using a mobile and how to protect himself with passwords and phone settings. You should also need to learn yourself how to protect yourself against accidental or unwanted in-app purchases. If its you phone(at least billing wise) you should link your google account to it so that you have the password then he would have to ask you each time.

Be aware if you make this out like he is not responsible for this Bill and blame Rogers,Google or the developer you might be teaching him the wrong lesson about responsible phone ownership. In the end He ignored the prompts for billing.

You have a crappy attitude. If I were Bell, I would bill you the full amount, then cancel your account on you.
Bell has done nothing wrong in this situation. Your irresponsible child has. But you cant blame him. So Blame yourself. You put it in his hands.
what happens next time he downloads something on the phone ? are you gonna call bell and say " my kid downloaded music, I aint paying for that, I didnt authozie it. "

Wake up man ! Either remove all Data plan stuff and just make it a phone, or take the phone away from little Forrest Gump So he doesnt do it again.

According to the girl at Rogers this is fairly new with google so it wouldn't be in my contact, but I give you credit for the effort. And she also have me info on another scam about being what they call short messages or something, saying you win a prize just reply to the message, then they bill your cell.

I wish they cancelled my account then there wouldn't be any cancellation fees, and I would go back wind, plus I would of just deducted the money from what I owed them. They would lose, not me. I would save money.
