Don't believe everything you read. The ccTV thing is true and there's plenty of discontent about that. The sharia law thing...not going to happen. As much as some want it to we'll have riots on the streets again if it even gets close. As for a disarmed populace...no, the majority are very happy without weapons. They weren't disarmed as much as never armed in the first place. No need. We have some hunting, mostly game-birds and rabbit, some deer. Swans if you get a royal approval!
Is life peachy? No. Is it China? Not at all. Demonstrations are free, democracy (see recent election) totally alive. Actually maybe too alive, since the Sharia Law thing is a result of the ability for free speech. Is it like Canada? Actually very similar...except you have more critters to shoot here, hence more of a hunting culture, hence a different attitude towards weapons that then boils over from a certain minority towards the general right to bear arms yadda yadda yadda.

The CCTV thing came about from football hooliganism more than anything. There'd be fights at nearly every match, they would spill over into cities. It was pretty serious once upon a time, I remember getting off a train and seeing the mobile police TV vans for the first time and it shocked me. Under the conservatives they started sliding in the systems under this guise, before we knew it we were the most observed western society for a while. Aside from privacy concerns though it has tracked kidnappers, murderers, terrorists and robbers and helped in arrests. Does that outweigh other concerns......who knows?

They allowed their masters to take away their guns, but nothing has changed. The problem is those laws will never be reverted, regardless of how ineffective they are/were. UK homicide rate was rising steadily from the 60s all the way to a peak in 2002 (years and decades after major firearms legislations). The truth then was the same as the truth today.. they still kill each other, and they still prefer to use knives.
