Fishing is animal torture

Fishing is not only tortuous to the fish, but also should not be considered a "sport".
Whats the point of ripping the fish's jaw with a hook in half then throw them back into the water... how would u like someone doing that to u? And shouldn't doing any sport involve sweating...?

No animal goes out of its way to save another animal of the same species

Guess you haven't seen a pride leader defend his lions from Hyenas that try to take their kills.

Or a momma bear **** your **** up when you get near her cubs.

A pack Alphas job is to defend it's pack.

umm let's see
- when animals kill they do it to eat or protect, humans kill for fun or a pair of sneakers
- Animals are loyal - Humans are not, its all about themselves
- Animals will give you unconditional love and affection - humans will as long as there is something on it for them
.... Etc etc etc

Animals don't put a hook on our mouth just for sport and then send us back on the road, they would only attack us like I said to eat or protect

Dogs would chase smaller animals and kill them just for fun. Be it a field mice or a squirrel.

My parents' pack had a crazy dog. A younger female killed an older dog because she wanted to be the dominant one. Literally bit her on the neck and would not let go, even though my parents tried to pull her away. Called the vet spoke to him, even he think it was unusual. I've never experienced that. Normally they would fight for dominance but not to the death. They wanted to put her down, but I opted to give her away to someone who would accept her craziness. Sometimes its hard to kill one of your own.

Lions also kill the offspring of competing males. Sometimes bear attack man for no reason.

I think you're getting the misconception that animals are loyal because you're around lots of domesticated ones. Lots of animals are breed for their traits, I would say loyalty is one of them. Some breed of domesticated dogs are more loyal than others.

So what do I think of sport fishing (catch & release)??
Not my kind of thing. They say fish do not have alot of nerves in their mouth so they do not feel much pain. Yeah right, the last time I went fishing I saw alot of blood oozing out of a fish's mouth

Way too many hippies in the GTA.

I obviously fish. Typical line and a hook, used to spear fish as a kid with my dad, and I've bowfished (yes, using a bow and special arrow with a reel).

Ethics come in to play. We try to hook fish through the lips so they don't swallow the hook. Part of the reason is so that if the fish isn't a keeper, it will live if thrown back. We've had fish we would throw back due to size, but kept since they would have ended up dying so we kept them to eat.

Fish live after being thrown back if it was a simple hook through the lip/face.

It's the way the natural world is. Animals eat other animals... We're animals. Instead of getting my fish from a disease and mercury infested cess pool, I try to get mine from natural, clean water ways. My meat, I try to get that from naturally fed and exercised animals... If you want to eat "green" and organic, go out and kill it yourself.

If you don't agree with fishing (either for sport or commercially) or hunting, then enjoy your life of soy based foods and supplements because your body isn't getting what it requires.

FYI, commercial fishing is much more harmful to the environment than sport fishing.

I try to be accepting of other worldviews & cultures, but this is a little too much for me :/

Why not just kill the thing?

Fishing teaches knowledge and respect for your environment. Fishermen pay license fees that go back into conservation to protect and expand fish stocks and improve the health and populations. So a few ripped lips and in exchange they have ensured survival and continuation of their species. Where is the cruelty again?

To their ego's because they need to feel validated at stopping and winning this most important of suffering on the planet right now.

They are worried about hooks instead of the MILES upon MILES of net that is used which indiscriminately kills just about everything trapped in it.

If this is a real cause for you then you don't have to be a diver to lend a helping hand towards solving this MAN MAD DISASTER.

why are there pictures of starving naked kids in a fishing thread?

I have to say though... he does do well to illustrate some good points being made. Maybe we should be teaching the poor starving people how to fish.

Language NSFW :lmao:

I wonder how you feel about Ducks Unlimited then. It's the biggest (to my knowledge) non-government organisation that works towards preserving and restoring wetlands. No other "green" organisation comes close. Sure, it's almost all hunters that support it, but it's not just so there is a place to hunt, it's to preserve what we have for the next generation. This is what ethical people who enjoy the outdoors do. This is also what sport fishermen are supposed to do.
I grew up being taught how to respect the environment. I pack out what I pack in (trash etc.) and don't leave things like spare line left. It all comes back in for me to get rid of properly.

I love the outdoors. I love animals (seriously, my house growing up was like a zoo). And I have a pretty big interest in living things and eco-systems. I recently went out west with work and there was one of those tree hugger types in our group. She started the week off in bashing hunters not realizing there were a few of us in the group. By the end of the week, this know it all realized she didn't know much and each time she saw an animal she ended up coming to these experienced outdoors people when she had a question.

I pointed on what commercial fishing leaves behind, and you illustrated that, so I'm not disagreeing you about that. But, it's irrelevant to this conversation, unless you're supporting sport fishing as a better way for people to get their fish.

I wonder how much time these "greenies" spend in the outdoors and how educated they really are about the subject.

^^^All of this. What steps has anyone who is against hunting or fishing taken to ensure any of these species don't face extinction or elimination of the species' environments?
