federal election - who are you voting for

Harper will, I don't know about mulcair. Really unfortunate for him I really wanted to see him as opposition.

I'm left wondering about Harper. He seems so incredibly power hungry that he might try to hang onto what he has left with his fingernails, but I think his party would toss him out in short order so I suspect he'll take the "honorable" way out instead and head off into the sunset. Buh Bye.

I'm of the same sentiment about Mulcair - I really thought he had a chance and he seemed very genuine, the sort of guy I'd love to go out for a beer with. Can't believe things went off the rail as bad as they did.

I was hoping to see Muclair as PM, the liberals voted in lockstep with the cons on 3 key issues.

Same here. Strategic voting after watching the niqab rubbish unfolding is what I think did for Mulcair. Very unfortunate as we really need a third party as a meaningful alternative.

I think we're aligned with the way we think.

I personally strongly believe if Harper doesn't resign he will be ousted immediately by his party. Time to give someone else a shot.

And I agree with you with mulcair. He would be a great prime minister. It's really unfortunate he didn't get as much support because he definitely deserves it. He's well spoken, shows leadership, doesn't ******** around issues. It sucks.

Haven't read a single post in this thread, just came here to say:

Olivia Cun& is out, victory for anyone with a motor vehicle.

Just thinking out loud here, but that Harper/Ford nonsense was political suicide and uncalled for. Talk about last ditch efforts. I wonder if that had any effect on the liberal sweep in the GTA...

There was the unmistakable stink of desperation in the last 2 weeks of the Harper campaign, but yes, he did himself no favors there, that's for sure.

Trudeau standing next to Wynne did himself no favors there either - I had contemplated giving him my vote vs NDP (neither him nor the NDP had a chance in my riding anyways so from a strategic voting perspective I could have gone either way) but he lost it when he stood there with her.

That said, I think he's WAY smarter, level headed, and wiley than Harper had beat into everyone's psyche in the last 6 or 8 weeks, so I'm of the "Well, lets see what happens, at least Steve is gone" mantra now.

Stevie is gone. Let's get a young, level minded representative for the Conservatives. Someone who is willing to represent Canada.

I voted for these guys in previous elections but they lost the plot and have gone way too far to the right for me. They will never get my vote again unless they move to the left a bit and bring back Progressive elements to their party. As for me I voted NDP this time. It was between them and the Liberals.

As for Justin... He is inexperienced etc. That being said it is the Liberal Party; not the Justin Trudeau Party. I am sure he will be listening to good advice and surrounding himself with capable people and a capable caucus. I am sure that Paul Martin will take his call if Justin wants his input on economic policies for instance. The sky is not falling despite some of the crazy comments I was hearing on talk radio on my drive home from work. The Conservatives have run their course.

Some of the post-loss doom and gloom from the hard conservative camp is bordering on insane (or laughable, depending on how seriously you take it), but that's the sort of fear and divisiveness that Harper groomed into many of his supporters, so I don't find it surprising honestly.

Here's what I just posted on FB... I think it sums up my views nicely:

Well, I didn't vote for Trudeau, but I move forward open minded based on the fact that the fear, uncertainty, and doubt that Harper tried to paint Trudeau with isn't exactly founded, nor necessarily even based on reality. He deserves (and will obviously get) a chance - I think he's far smarter, level headed, and wiley than many believe, despite the Harper paranoia. LIke it or not he's the PM for the next 4 years and I refuse to make a kneejerk reaction that it'll be all bad.

A quick reality check - if your financial picture isn't exact perfect, you're not happy with the current economy or job outlook, you're tired of living in unfounded fear and negativity, and you realise that view of Canada from outside our borders right now has deteriorated, remember who was at the steering wheel for the last 10 years.

The outcome I wanted was to see Harper tossed out. I wasn't completely and totally enamored with any of the other options, but one thing I was sure of, it was time for Harper to go.

Success.

And hey, the Jays won as well.

It was a good day. Good night.

And with that, Good night. ;)

Another self-inflicted conservative debacle .... These guys cannot hire some brains to give them worth of advice how to connect with voting public????? Unbelievable ....

I am sure there will be some disillusional people who will say, it was all good what they were selling .... LOL

Oh oh, We have a moron here. This guy is thick. He's failed at absolutely everything he's tried in his life, what makes you think that he will suddenly be a success at running a country. He's been living his life hiding behind Big Daddy's name and in Big Daddy's pockets

I hung on with the liberal party through all of this in the slight chance he would loose and we could actually elect a leader. I think what pushed him over the top was the Nuremberg style rally ads.

I'm reminded of that great line in Snatch, "Now we are **** ed"

You guys may think I've over reacting but this is the end for Canada. He's going to cause a recession, the $ will be worthless and his divisive policies towards Alberta and the west will see them separating. There was already a grass root effort under Harper, this will push the issue. Canada, or what's left of it, will be a very different place in 4 years.

I'm in Whitby and you want to see what we elected. She has the IQ of a 10lb bag of nails.

Regardless. I just resigned from the Liberal party and you are looking at the newest member of the NDP :) Most liberal strategists already left a year ago and joined the NDP.

We kept Lisa Raitt Conservative, she wont/cant do much for Milton , she is focused on being the next party leader after harper steps out. But the liberal candidate here was all but invisible.

Lets see if Justin can or will deliver on some of his big promises. And at what cost........

I'm glad JT won but was hoping for a minority...except that would cause a snap election as the parties could never get along.

Not sure if this is great / horrid for Canada but I say it's time for some new blood, and to allow someone to actually get a shot at making a difference.

If he's useless as all the ads state, it'll be a short stint and he'll be gone in 4.

Well, you got what you asked for. Now may The Lord have mercy on our souls.

Doom and gloom much?

EDIT: While I agree that there is a large possibility he will be a failure and not live up to expectations. I wonder why/how we can arrange for a political system that actually makes the politicians accountable for their action / inaction?

Let's say you brake promise X,Y,Z out of T promises....how do you account for that? There should be a system for the populace to say 'Sorry, you're not doing what you promised, out you go!'
