I love jets, if we were a super rich country with a massive surplus of cash I'd love millions of them flying about. We're not, that's why it's important we get the right tool for the job and also even more important that the government follow transparent protocols in order to make sure taxpayers are getting the best deal for their cash.

I like bikes and if I were a super rich business tycoon I'd have garages full of them but (Relative) I could have a truck at the end of it's life. I could have a mortgage and still need to replace said truck before the major debt is payed. Life.

Procurement cycles always start out as a lower estimation. Especially in development. It always costs more, it gets delayed, it gets revised, it encounters issues, it gets recalled, it gets delivered, it goes through start up issues, it has parts shipped back it requires training..... each step is more money.

So transparent to me means expected, or why should it be any different?
 
It's because there is a conspiracy going on ... Bob Rae said so. But you are right us 3rd world countries should be happy with a fleet of Cessnas instead.

One would think that's the best way of doing it (Myself among them) but I guess it doesn't always work that way.

It has happened before under other governments so it's not just a Harper is the devil thing. On the surface it does seem like a dual engine extended range fighter would be the better choice but I am not privy to all the information that the people involved are. There may be more to it than we realize.
 
Impossible. Bob Rae and The Star are military procurement experts and they say the F35 is no good.

I think Bob moonlights as Boeing's chief test pilot.

"Updated at 5:43 a.m. ET: Two U.S. F-15s were scrambled to escort a Korean Air passenger jet to a Canadian military base Tuesday after the carrier's call center received a "credible bomb threat," NBC News reported. The aircraft later made an emergency landing.

Korean Air flight 72, which was en route from Vancouver to South Korean capital Seoul, diverted to the Comox base on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, the airline said.

"The (Korean Air) U.S. call center received a call that there was a threat on board the aircraft," Korean Air said in a statement. The threat was received about 25 minutes after the flight took off, The Associated Press reported.

NBC News reported that Canadian authorities had requested U.S. assistance to escort the flight back to Canada.

Two Oregon National Guard F-15s, which took off from Portland, Ore., intercepted the plane and shadowed it until it landed at the Canadian base, NBC News reported."

Luckily Vancouver is quite close to Portland and the TTI would be fairly low from there. What if the plane were flying out of a more remote hub?

note the 10+ pages of concerns. . .each one equals a delay in development and an increase in price.

the f35 is a money pit that only fools would agree to buy without cost certainty.

it has serious limitations on its claimed capabilities that are unresolved.

having due diligence is the least we should do to properly investigate alternatives.

Don't you run a company? Do you procure material based on a "lets not bother, the result will be the same whether we look around or not" attitude? Do you let staff buy things for the company without any due diligence?
 
So far...nothing has been agreed to or bought....is what I heard.

It's like airframes are becoming fewer and further between. Understandable because of the cost involved these days.

In the 80-90's you had choices.

Eurofighter: it's a good case study in cost but it's a horribly dated 90's technology. In 1988 the cost of the Eurofighter was going to be £7 billion (for the Brits) and soon after it was green lighted the realistic estimation came out @ £13 billion. By 1997 it was £17B then £20B by 2003.

It is estimated the total program cost hit £37 billion.

Also note the Germans wanted to withdraw from the deal but were forced to follow through because of development contracts....

Interesting to note the SU-30 (Basically an SU-35) cost India $1.4 billion (USD) for 50 planes and they are considered to be superior to the Eurofighter in air combat....

Thats right I run it. So shut up and let me run it because I'm successful and don't need to hear the opinions of everyone else to know what's right. The cheapest price is never the best, multiple quotes are never the best and waste a ton of my time. Nickel and diming wastes my time. Do research, look around and then buy. Or waste countless hours on quotes and other time suckers and end up at the same result.

I mentioned many examples not just ones based on brown people. We didn't have any problems in the 70/80/90's..really? It was smooth sailing all those decades? No recessions? Thank you for repeating what I said in previous posts...now...why haven't we done that? Also...do you not perform any due dilligence on purchases made by staff in your company? You still really didn't answer that.

I'll bet you somewhere you have checks and balances put in place to ensure the continued success of your company. Most people having a problem with this F35 contract don't see any of those checks and balances, they see no due dilligence and no transparency.
