F1 Thread!!!

Those are demonstrations by the teams, supervised by them, with team techs and drivers. They don't drop off real cars to be parked in front of bars unsupervised.

Yes, they do. Older cars, with no internals, but real rolling chassis that saw track time either racing or testing.

good job Williams! Lets hope Felipe Crasha doesn't make any boneheaded moves (like take rosberg out) and gets Williams a well deserved podium.

Qualifying was almost as exciting as last race.

Nice ballerina move on Hamiltons car in dying moments of qualifying, to start in 9th. Vettel knocked out in the second round and spanked by his teammate yet again.

Should be another great race watching Rosberg spar with the Williams, and Hammy slice his way through the field.

I'm trying hard to get excited about the 2014 season, i'm struggling though. Happy to see Williams on the front row.

It's nice to see William back on the podium, it's well deserved for them. The British Grand Prix is practically the home race to almost all the teams.

Hopefully Lewis can get his **** together for Silverstone.

Foolish to believe that any of those display cars you see at events and auto shows are real. Far from it. (Unless you have connections to a rich F1 Collector who has real F1 cars but they likely be decommissioned and a few years old)

There are a few companies that make show cars. They can be bought or rented.

No mock-up. The real deal.

Whether or not the car was raced is another story.

As I said. Who knows if it was ever raced. It could be filled with parts that didn't pass QC or were never used. No idea if it had an engine in it, I doubt it would.

The chassis itself is genuine.

Genuine one off. In a billion dollar sport, you're not getting the real deal on a exhibition car.

Yes, you are often getting the real deal. The engines and gearboxes get worn out, so they melt them down and keep a few for the factory museums and maybe some very exclusive VIPs. But the chassis are plentiful and useless at the end of a season, and they aren't recyclable. They're low maintenance, and they hold no secrets after a year or two anyways. So they get sold off to collectors or used as show cars.

The only reason to build a chassis specifically for show is for current models that are still in use. They used to just paint the latest livery on older chassis but people are wise to that, especially with the big changes in chassis look in the past few years.

Again, the same question ... how the heck would you know??
can't you tell? it's got the genuine plate that says so that anybody could get done at the local engravers.
