Explosion at US-Canada border

Don't think it's a Tesla, has some sort of grill. Also has either a blacked out or panoramic glass roof

Where is TV CSI when you need them.

looks like a sleek car, grey Tesla 3?

Seeing as it's a white car with a grill, I'm going with no.

Looks like kidneys. I'm going with Beemer

that makes no sense...why would someone be coming this way at 11:50 in the morning for a rock concert...

I'm thinking more it was someone who was either drunk or high out of their mind...

As we connect the dots, the report does say it came from the "casino" area. Bentley wouldn't seem so far fetched,

Drunk and high for sure.

Heading to Toronto? KiSS playing tonight. That's his Era of music

That makes sense now...hubby says he heard a customs agent got injured as well...I'm thinking the fact that they reopened the other bridges, that this isn't a terrorist attack...awful way to start the Thanksgiving long weekend for the family...

Media outlets love things like this. Sadly.
I find that the US is the worst for making something as simple as a chicken laying an egg BREAKING NEWS.

That's rubbish reporting (of which there was no shortage). There is now a very clear video showing the car travelling at very high speed in Buffalo towards the border checkpoint, striking and becoming airborne on the curved concrete barrier that separates the inbound and outbound border traffic, and flying into the checkpoint area.

Map Google Maps

Most likely launched over this sloped end of the barrier Google Maps

Elsewhere it's been stated that the car was approaching on Main St, but in doing this exploration, I think it was more likely to be Niagara St, as it's aimed directly towards that sloped barrier, and then directly towards all the checkpoints.

edit: If there's truth to the story that they were coming from the casino, that also supports the car approaching via Niagara St. The casino is only about 600 m up that road from where this happened. Plenty of distance for a Bentley to get up to some speed ...

I wonder how much money will be spent on consultation if they should redesign the border crossing to prevent these things from happening again in the future. Or at least minimize the damage sustained.

On both sides of the border.

I believe the witness that said the car was on Main St. If you look at the map, it's straight shot following Main right to the fence if he didn't make the turn to the Canada exit.

Also, the footage is taken from a CBSA camera facing southeast, and the car is driving across the field of view, which would be Main. If it was coming from Niagara, it would have been coming at the camera.

On looking at the photos again, it looks like the car hit the secondary-inspection structure and not the main inspection-booth structure, and that would support an approach along Main St as opposed to Niagara St, so you're probably right.

As for stopping this happening ... You can't really stop someone from approaching at high speed along the approach road. I suppose that separation wall between inbound and outbound traffic could be made heavier and taller, but it won't stop someone who just drives along the normal approach road and plows through the checkpoints. 'Course, that's never stopped risk-averse people from spending money trying to stop the impossible ...
