everything MAC

He thinks its odd because he's under the impression that all 169.x addresses are used for APIPA. In reality its just a Microsoft thing and its just 169.255.x.x group of addresses.

i need a mac book pro for work.. and since we have a few die hard fans of apple, can you tell me if i can get a newer mac book pro for cheaper than the apple website?

i'm looking at the 13" model for $1249.. i have a budget of $1600 including tax. Maybe if i can get the office software in the deal for $1249 as well that will be fine.

Also, this will be a government institution ordering this unit if that helps.

Ask and ye shall receive..

Refurb Macbook Pros from Apple directly. Afaik they're just open box products returned to Apple within 14 days of purchase. They come with full warranty and you can buy Applecare extended 3 year warranty for them too (off ebay is better, its only like $100)

ps. check that link every day, the stock changes often.. they only have two 13" models at the moment

Yup!! The full warranty and 3 year Apple Care is a great addition if you really need that extra piece of mind.

im coming from 17", and i don't miss it,...... 13" macbook air(late '10).

another deciding factor, if you want a bigger screen, its a simple plug in to a bigger screen. 20" displays or your choice.

example: i bought the mini display port(HDMI) and wireless keyboard and trackpad to surf from the couch on the HDTV.
mostly for the kids to use as a desktop.

update: there is airplay mirroring now.

17 is kinda big to lug around.

15 is a good balance. 13 is small.

to me the 13" is perfect, you should see the postions im usually in.(no homo)
agree with you tho, but no 15" macbook air.

The 13 inch is a great form factor, but way to underpowered for any pro user. I would love a 13 inch MacBook Pro, but it just doesn't cut it power wise. I use my 15 inch MacBook Pro like a desktop, only need portable about 5% of the time, the rest is all plugged into my 24 inch LED samsung screen. Would love to have the power of my 15 inch in the small 13 inch, but I am not holding my breath for that.

How To Capture a Screen Shot with Mac OS X
Get a widget called "screenshot plus". It's the greatest thing ever - whole screen, timed screen shot, screen shot of a window only, or an adjustable box (so you can grab any size picture/a line of text/etc.). It's probably my most used widget. Taking screenshots is the easiest way to get rid of exif data

Cybernation, create an account on the apple website and put your number in the account information. Pick what macbook you want and add it to your cart, but don't check out/pay. Within 2 weeks, they'll call you and give you 20% off if you're willing to buy it on the spot.

Another alternative is to use anyone who's in school (teachers or students). You have to do this online (since you obviously can't use someone else's student ID in person). I think this one's only about 10-15% off, though.

got the screenshot plus, thanks.

About Screenshot Plus
Can take full screen captures, grab portions of the screen, and even capture windows, desktop icons, and other widgets. Captures may be saved to the clipboard or to the hard drive, or they may be exported to any application directly from the widget.

A timer feature has Screenshot Plus automatically take a screenshot after 10 seconds, giving you time to set up the screen beforehand.

Screenshot Plus, by default, displays a preview of captures taken. For a truly streamlined workflow, it also offers the option to save or import immediately after capturing; in literally one-click, anything on the screen can be ready for editing or stocked away in your iPhoto album.

Captures may be saved in the following formats: png, tiff, jpg, pdf, gif. Screenshot Plus is available in English, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, French and Dutch.

What’s New in this Version
- Screenshot Plus is now Snow Leopard-compatible
- Bug fixed involving timed screenshots

carry on.....

if you have an apple airport extreme, you prob know by now you can't do time machine backups wirelessly, by just plugging in an external hard drive to the extreme USB port.
well there is a way, and it works for me.
people say apple don't allow it to ensure sales of the time capsule. FAIR, OK.

this alone should help the situation, but there is more if not, also the procedure.

Oddly enough, Time Machine can be rather picky about the way certain things are named.

Check your Computer Name at the top of the System Preferences > Sharing panel.

It must not be blank; it should not be more than 25 characters long; and you should avoid punctuation, spaces, and special characters (even though OSX uses them when it makes the default name when you first set up a Mac).

After changing it if the Local Hostname doesn’t change automatically, click the Edit button and change it manually.

If that doesn't help, apply the same rules to the name of your Airport Extreme and Network, via Airport Utility.
