Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Anybody have experience in repairing stucco'd trim pieces? Neighbour hit theirs on the side of the garage and is looking for tips.

I want no part of that machine.
Not a terrible idea. There are many ways they can hurt you badly and without competent instruction you may not even see it coming. With a tabletop like crankcalls, you can likely stall the motor. With your dad's, more weight and power plus high reduction and your arm gets wound up like a coil spring.

There are videos of macho guys thinking they can stall a lathe by holding the chuck key. Torque is a B****. It usually results in serious injury. My table top one draws about as much power as a 3/8" drill so is safer but taking stock down in size is many, many tedious cuts.

I had a full sized lathe at the shop but it wasn't coming home. Three phase electrics and losing half the garage wasn't worth the expected use. I did bring home my drill / mill which was single phase and under a half ton. It may go as I'm leaning towards focusing on wood working.

My metal working may go the way of the clickbait YouTubers that build useless junk out of scrap pipe with a no name angle grinder and a stick welder.

I trust MP's dad has access to a forklift and space in the garage. A friend just about got maimed helping put a smaller one in a basement shop.

How did he get it off of that U-Haul truck?

My table top lathe will happily stall if you dig too hard . It’s pretty good for soft metals , I turned some stainless in it and it was an all day event .
I never took machine shop in high school and have no real world experience, so 8 times out of 10 there is probably an easier way to the finish line than I’m taking.

I don’t even know what one would make with that thing? Something round I guess…

Although the seller did tell me you could make square items with it.

While it excels at round or facing off, It's all about how much imagination and time you have. If you wanted to make something like a pyramid, put tooling in chuck and your part in the tool rest.

Basically a mill with only two axis. It's amazing what can be done when one is bored enough and holding a beer.

While it takes a bit of timing practice, threading on a lathe gets it right.
