Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

What if you were to fill the fireplace with logs. Half way up and than rest the speaker on top of the logs?

Specs suggest that goes up 10”.
Didnt see the specs. Similar tv tray table may work. Adjustable height but will probably need to be cut down a couple of inches. Leaves the bottom open like you want. Probably find one kijiji for next to nothing

Build onto my next question....where does one get wood outside of Home Depot / RONA / LOWEs etc?

My buddy bought his board and batten up at a mill in Musoka Lumber...but that's a hell of a trek for bringing some boards back home.

Also...pine or cedar for board and batten? He got pine, but I read there's the possibility of warping and bugs that is higher with boards that are NOT cedar.

FWIW my step father built a deck out of spruce 2X4s and stained it that redwood colour, replaced it after five years.

I get 2x4 is not 2x4 because it needs to be planed, but for fucks sake if I need a somewhat straight piece I need to go through at least 10 pieces.
Sometimes I buy oversized lumber and rip it down. The bigger stuff I figure comes from a more stable part of the tree. It still warps as stresses release. :(

1X2 strapping is a joke. T&G on the little stuff.

All wood siding looks like poo after a few years I can set you up with a Mennonite sawmill if you want some.

Sent from the future

mennonite home mills ( there are about 100 within a 50 mile circle of kitchener) do not use graded lumber and drying is very skeechy at best, There are several large producers like Townsend but many are not small project friendly .
@daught , you live where the lumber is cut , its too fresh off your shelf , we air dry it on railcars coming east.
@Mimico , cedar is about 15X the price of pine product. Some smaller producers are using eastern white cedar , at that point just use pine.

Large scale wood siding producers , Fraser and CapeCod use a very specific pine tree , for stability and natural resin content . ( I hate Maibec for a variety of reasons ) . Mimico, the siding yoiur wife favours will have a back cut to minimize cupping. You can buy unfinished siding , you will not save a nickle and pre finished is done on a large automated machine at the plant under perfect conditions. You cannot match that in your yard.
I've got 10 yr old Faser wood board and batten on a project, its just fine.

Hardie also has a board and batten. Installed, done for decades,,,,,,
