And here I thought they were to be laid under in case of a fire..:
Think I might go pick up one or two.

Home Depot has fire blankets on promo right now . I’ve been in a fire , it’s rather unpleasant.
For folks that go buy one , take it out of the box , take the plastic bag off and have it ready , that thirty seconds you’ll spend unpacking it can be the difference between “ that was close” and holy F , get out of the house .

Thanks, picked one up (blanket) for the kitchen. They also had a small spray can fire extinguisher so I grabbed that as well, I already have bigger ones near the door and fireplace....Home Depot has fire blankets on promo right now . I’ve been in a fire , it’s rather unpleasant.

In a pinch I used paper towel as a fire blanket. No liquids involved so get enough wrap with pressure to snuff it out. It was far from ideal but worked well. Small secondary paper towel fires were easy to deal with. When I was in the boat fire , the owner had put the extinguishers in the cupboard above the stove . When the butane stove blew up I had to reach through the fire to get the extinguisher. It had been raining so I had full rain gear on that was damp which saved me , but the scars on my hands don’t tan in tbe summer .
If you buy a fire blanket make sure it’s big enough to wrap the cook , lot of synthetic fabrics go up fast , same for flannel. In a movie when they can run around a house on fire , good luck , it does not work like that .
When I put out the boat fire the option was over the side into lake Ont in the spring , in the dark , probably would have killed four of us .

Yikes. I would be replacing it with one I could disable without killing it (eg a button or app to put it to sleep for 30 minutes and then it would automatically start working again).Wife has an annoying habit of disconnecting the smoke detector at the cottage. More than once I caught the battery pulled out because ‘it’s more annoying than useful’ argument.
I always reinstall it AFTER she finishes her cooking.
Didn’t know those existed. But you are correct. It should always be on.Yikes. I would be replacing it with one I could disable without killing it (eg a button or app to put it to sleep for 30 minutes and then it would automatically start working again).
Not the best design (hush button should be easy to differentiate from test button and it only silences for 8 minutes but it's only $25). I'm sure you could find one better. Nest can do it but way more money (although it will also send your phone a message so you know the cottage is burning).Didn’t know those existed. But you are correct. It should always be on.
Thanks! I’ve got 2 cameras there pointing out but may add another one pointing in to see if all good inside. Not the best design (hush button should be easy to differentiate from test button and it only silences for 8 minutes but it's only $25). Uhoh. Ordered parts from a Canadian supplier to keep money here instead of helping Bezos even though cost was higher and shipping time was much longer I was hoping for better quality parts. Parts arrived a week later. One bearing fits. The seal and other bearing are a hard no. Wife is going to be ******. Sent company a message. We'll see how they deal with it.Washing machine has acted up a little. Occasionally doesn't finish a cycle. Drum had a bit of play. I assumed bearings but if the spider was broken, I was going to call it terminal and get a new one on boxing day. Unfortunately, I couldn't figure out a way to differentiate between bearings with play and a broken spider without tearing the whole thing apart. Luckily it was just bearings but now machine is in a hundred pieces. Ordered new bearings/seals and will put it back together when they arrive in a week.
Edit:
Barf. Pulled the spider and agitator webs to clean behind. So so gross. Lots of cavities designed in to capture sand/soap/mold.
I thought about it. The ones I checked prices on are on the throw away equipment model. Bearings, seals, etc would be over $300. With all the labour required to do the job, I don't know why bother stocking parts at those prices as it makes sense to throw it out and buy a new one. There are still B&M appliance parts places around, the one I use has good customer service and I never get an incorrect part...
Fixed. Hit it with my purse. Added a Fosi ZD3, an optical cable and some grossly overpriced XLR's I had kicking around (wireworld equinox 5's). Now running +4dBu balanced instead of -10 dBV unbalanced. Sounds better when playing and silent when not playing. At full pop, that's adding close to $1000 in front end to $650 worth of speakers. Stupid audio foolery. Thankfully most of it was stuff I had and/or got for a decent price. Some progress. Digging around on the internet a probable cause was C6 power state on the processor. It puts cores to sleep and wakes them up many times a second. Noise from that likes to make it to the speakers (sounds like static mixed with an idling diesel). Disabling C6 made a huge improvement although there is still some noise there. Interestingly if I start a game it gets far worse (bad enough that it needs to be fixed). If I run a benchmark so CPU is forced to 100%, audio is clean.
EDIT
Disabled CPU idle and now normal computer use is fine. Games have horrible buzz correlated to screen refresh rate. I'm getting close to buying a dac but slightly concerned that will cost a bunch and not guaranteed to solve my problem. I would hope the noise isn't on the digital signal but it depends where it is being introduced within the computer.
Stress test of GPU and/or CPU outside of the games has minimal noise. Noise is somehow triggered by game. Game uses a bunch more GPU memory than stress test but very little GPU load.
Old speakers were two wire, new ones have a ground. I've never had a ground loop that varied in frequency but I guess it's conceivably possible.
I think I'm dodging this one for a while. Over the last two years the Squeeze has had us replace a slider, the front entrance door, the large picture window and all the windows upstairs. Then it was new flooring. Can't have new carpet upstairs and keep that old rag paint scheme. Once you paint it's time to update the switches and outlets to Decora style. Hey now the bathroom fixtures are looking pretty dated. FACK the holes are in different spots so I have to putty holes and repaint.Wife is already coming up with new projects for 2025
