@mimico_polak has a bunch of stone knowledge in the family. He can probably come up with something for you. I'm surprised quartz stained.Any tips for getting stains out of quartz? There’s a orangish stain from a dirty damp towel left on this quartz (I’m guessing some iron in the water left in towel stained the quartz).
Thanks oioioi, I'm all over the place as usual. More east tomorrow.@sburns I have the type of camera the @GreyGhost mentioned.
You are welcome to borrow it.
I will be in midtown Toronto tomorrow evening.
If you only had elbows in one direction, an electrical fish tape might work too (but I don't want poo on my tape). If bends are in two planes, the electrical fish may not work well. Thanks oioioi, I'm all over the place as usual. More east tomorrow.
Curious how effective is the camera from your experience, does it need to be handled as @GreyGhost mentioned or can you just shove it down the drain as is?
Start by pulling off the aerator and smelling it. Maybe it's just a crappy seal on the aerator and that's easy to replace. This one is a weird one….5 faucets in the house and only a single one (the latest installed one) has a weird rubber / plastic burning smell.
No other one has the same smell.
Any thoughts or ideas? I just installed it a few months ago and that seems to be the cause but I don’t want to yank it out to install a new one.
Not sure if cold or hot water but will test them tonight.
Progress but not fixed. New thermostat is installed. It measures load and logs kwh. Except it doesn't. Controls the floor fine but says no load is connected. Emailed customer service and they have issues with the backplane and are sending me a revised model. Good service but annoying to swap as that entails redoing the wiring again.Heated floor thermostat flaked again. Looks and sounds like it's working but doesn't actually connect power to the heating wire. When this happened a few years ago I replaced one of the relays which had failed (it breaks both neutral and hot in case one welds shut). It's not interested in passing GFCI test this time so I am calling it and replacing with a new one. Now, maybe the gfci test is downstream of the second failed relay but my wife doesn't love a cold bathroom. If I have another relay I'll fix the old one and keep it as a spare.
I bought one off Temu with a 18’ lead that plugs into my phone for $19. The one shown above it $40 with 1 week delivery.Hey have any of you used a camera snake? I see them on Amazon, and I want to poke around in some drains as I've been having some issues. Worth it, not? Is there another way to get a better idea of where the pipes go/map them out?
Picture for reference, usually priced from $100 - $150

Let me call my cousin and ask. That’s his baby and a bunch of cousins are in the trade.Any tips for getting stains out of quartz? There’s a orangish stain from a dirty damp towel left on this quartz (I’m guessing some iron in the water left in towel stained the quartz).
Not sure what your overall plans are but one of my future nightmares may be similar.
The old structure was fine but I am putting in a larger tub = more weight. I figured it was all open so sister them all up, I might even triple a couple before I am done. Not sure what your overall plans are but one of my future nightmares may be similar.
I was already warned to expect a $hitshow when I open up the downstairs bathroom.
Rubbermaid tub in downstairs shower works for a bit while you redo upstairs. As for money, make a list of stuff you need and dimensions, keep an eye out at auctions or clearance at stores and you can probably get many of the expensive bits for less than half price. Stage them in the cottage basement until you are ready to start the project.I was already warned to expect a $hitshow when I open up the downstairs bathroom.
I need to balance the timing b/w dad still having strength / health to help me out...and also money.
The downstairs is more easily done as it's just a shower with old tiles that the MIL uses...so she can always use the upstairs while I'm working away on it.
Upstairs bathroom is dated, but has a tub and the kids use nightly so it's a bit more of a time crunch.
Next time I'm up at the cottage I'll take measurements and photos of the bathroom and get the GTAM Braintrust to provide some guidance as that one needs work 100% and it's super duper tiny.
Our previous house had one full bathroom and a powder room in the basement. House was small so no space to add shower to basement bathroom. I was mentally working out a temp shower as doing construction with no place to shower after sucks. It was going to be a knee high bin with shower curtain all around in the laundry room. For simplicity, use a submersible pump to empty it into the laundry tub after showering. It would have been cheap and easy and worked well enough for a temporary solution. We have been running with one bathroom for a few months now, two adults and two teenagers.... it always takes way longer than expected.
