Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

My inlaws have a similar vintage Bosch. I asked how often they cleaned the filter and got a dumb stare. I cleaned it and it had some goo and broken glass but it was much less than I expected for complete neglect.

You don't need to grind the food with the right flow/pump design. Filter protects the pump/spray arms during wash, use an alternate flow path during pump out to send all the big chunks into the drain (bonus points if they use a water jet to purge the big bits).

Me as well.
I have dishwasher, but it's a cheapy one and uses too much water and energy for what it does. So I do it by hand.
You know that washing by hand normally uses about double the water right? Dishwasher is about 18L per cycle. That is less than it takes to fill a kitchen sink (and if you rinse dishes, water use goes way up).

Our DW is a kitchenaid , probably the same inside as 9 other brands under the same corporate umbrella . It’s 2 yrs old and works really well . It’s used constantly, life is too short for washing plates by hand

If someone is primarily just looking out to save on their own water bills, that may be true.

I have no idea of the actual numbers, but the water consumption alone required to manufacture all the various compents of a dishwasher, likely outweighs handwashing. When the transportation and packaging of the unit are factored in, I'd think there's far more energy and resources involved than handwashing dishes for 1-2 people. Just a guess, but seems likely.

We’ve been happy with the Fridgidaire Professional line we put in our home (Bosch dish) but with the in-laws not likely staying long in their current home we put in a Hisense cheapy fridge and I must say it’s darn nice. 2yr warranty and it’s the quietest fridge I (haven’t) heard.

Digikey and mouser have almost everything. No idea if they have pickup locations or just shipping.
Yeah mouser is just shipping, they have what I want. But as a first world problem, of course I want it right away. ;)
I'll check that other one, never heard of it.

Anyone have a source (not Amazon) to buy transistors? I think there should be a place in Markham (steels and vic park) but haven't been able to pin point one.

I'm going to call this place tomorrow, but open to other sources
For the quickest option, Sayal is probably your best choice.
Especially in the East end.

Actually ....
There is a place in Etobicoke (Sherway area) that probably has what you need (and more). Also another place in Mississauga (Dixie/401)

This is the place in Etobicoke. THEY ARE open today till 5 pm ( I called to confirm). Get back on the bike and go for another boot.

Don't get scared by the 1950's website.

Excellent thanks!

Whatcha building @sburns?
Lol, nothing actually fixing my NAS, it went kaput. Apparently it's a known issue one of the transistors blows. It's like a 0.18c part. But since it's outta warranty the manufacture (Synology) won't repair it and suggests a motherboard replacement, which of course is almost the cost of a new NAS.
So I will just do this myself.

Anyone know a reasonable foundation repair company. Looks like we have a very small leak/crack and won't it dealt with from the out side as the inside is finished. I'm going to review companies and call around in the new year, but wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations.

Gords's Basement Waterproofing.

I have used them in the past (over 10 yrs ago) for two different places in my basement. One was a plug that popped and they had that fixed in minutes from the inside. Did a great job of cutting the drywall so it was very easy to fix back up (no, they wouldnt fix it but didnt hack out all over the wall to find the leak). The other was an outside repair, hand-dug down far enough that I didnt see him when I walked by to check progress. Both have held up so far.

Thanks guys, with a finished basement is there a way they can tell the appox source of the leak or do they just have to start removing drywall etc?
My hope is that this can be patched from the outside.. we only have a small patch of water on the floor, the walls all seem dry and solid...

They should be able to use a thermal camera and identify the moisture spots. Thus would indicate that there most likely is water coming around that moisture spot.

Home inspectors often have thermal cameras.

I have many tools but that is one I do not have.

That is what I assumed, thanks!
I was thinking of buying a cheap thermal camera to check things, but at this point the leak seems minor and I'll have someone out ASAP to deal with it before it gets any worse.

The proper thermal camera are NOT cheap. FLIR is one that comes to mind and I think they are a few thousand $$$. I am not sure how effective a cheap thermal camera would be in this application.

Most basement leaks are bad grading. The dirt around the foundation needs to slope away from the house this often gets messed up when flowerbeds etc are put in.
