Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Bosch are the only decent ones they clean better and last longer. If you have never had one you won't understand the way a dishwasher can clean. Get the series ones not the cheaper one with the plastic floor. Easy to tell look inside if it is a stainless floor you are good to got. I am on my third Bosch usually the first thing that gets installed when we change houses. Never had any issues.

Thanks for the info. Which series do you like? Costco has 100, 300 and 800. Online pics are useless. Cant see the floors.

Other than this stupid door switch, this dishwasher hasn't been bad. Yearly disassembly to clean out a little hair in pump and lemon seeds/slivered almonds stuck in spray arms. No grinder before the pump on this one.

We got a Bosch 800 series from Costco that was on offer as it wasn’t a smart (WiFi enabled) one. Decided we never use smart features on all our other stuff so no need for it on a dishwasher either. Because of that it cost less than the top of the range version in the series below it but came with advanced drying features (see below). Here’s my thoughts on it after using it for several months:

1. It’s not silent but it is pretty quiet.
2. It’s a bit awkward to load but it’s just different to what we had before. Can’t quite explain it but there’s a learning curve.
3. It cleans like a motherfucker. This German machine just does not like leaving crap on dishes. It’s the best dishwasher we have ever had for that.
4. The model we have has the fancy dancy drying mode with zeolite crystals. It sounded like mumbo jumbo in the advertising blurb but it works. We have to leave the dishes in the dishwasher a good 10-20 minutes or more unless you want third degree burns from removing plates. It does not melt any plastic through and you can put plastic containers on the top or the bottom. Everything comes out dry.
5. It’s just efficient in that horribly smug German way. I like it.

Ours is a panel ready 800. We paid about $1100 16 years ago. Just checked and the same unit now is about $2300. Crazy inflation.
My inderstanding is European dishwashers don't grind up the remains of food on the plates. So one less thing to go wrong. Don't ask me where the stuff goes.
I think I've checked the filter at the drain like 5 times and never much on it. I can't figure it out. Damn voodoo.

My inlaws have a similar vintage Bosch. I asked how often they cleaned the filter and got a dumb stare. I cleaned it and it had some goo and broken glass but it was much less than I expected for complete neglect.

You don't need to grind the food with the right flow/pump design. Filter protects the pump/spray arms during wash, use an alternate flow path during pump out to send all the big chunks into the drain (bonus points if they use a water jet to purge the big bits).

If you got 16yrs out of a dishwasher , that’s good value .

Just recd a new LG dishwasher. Old faithful GE was installed in 2001, probably could have been fixed but didn’t try.

This one matches the fridge.

As he’s leaving, the delivery driver tells me he supposed to take my old dishwasher away, had to ask him to come back later…she’s out shopping.

That’s looks like the model we just replaced. It needed a new board after a week. Seals went after a year or so. Hopefully those issues are ironed out now.

Used to have a Bosch that was a workhorse but after the kitchen reno the color didn't "match" so the missus wanted a new dishwasher. Got the LG studio... the plastic on the control panel on top started cracking after a few months, then the circulation pump died at the 1.5 yr mark and now at the 3.5yr mark the middle rack just lost all its ball bearings and one side of it doesn't slide or sit properly. That being said, it does clean just as well as the Bosch and noise level is much lower.

You guys are scaring me!

Nah. If it was a Samsung you should be petrified though.
We have several LG tvs and a fridge that have been flawless. Couldn’t get a the LG we wanted during pandemic, so the range is a Samsung. I don’t skimp on these, I’ve found many manufacturers support their premier lines better.

I don’t push too hard on selecting paint colours, appliances or vacuums. If I did, I’d have to learn how to use them.

All our appliances are LG, 3x friges, 2x stoves, 2x dishwashers and laundry set. The rest have all been great and that one dishwasher seems to have been an anomaly, although the second dishwasher only gets used after gatherings so can't comment on its long term reliability really.

Am I the only one still doing this by hand?

We have an LG fridge, washer and range that are just fine. The dishwasher was an anomaly I think.

These are the drawers I made to fill in that space.

There's just me and the Squeeze. Takes about all of 5 minutes.

I need my favourite cup, bowl, plate, spoon, fork and knife every day, so unfortunately I can't use a dishwasher.

We put in a brand new Miele dishwasher when we redid our kitchen.
Even though it's nice, I think we've only used it once in 6 years right after buying it.
