Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Drum appears fine. Noise is loudest during the final spin cycle.

I’d say it’s similar to a wheel bearing / hub on a car.

As mentioned…hardest part is finding out WHAT the actual issue is. Replacement is the easier part for me typically.
There is a bearing like a wheel bearing in there non replaceable. It fails from using non he soap usually or too much.

My wife also likes to toss 2 of the soap packs because the ‘more is better mentality’.

I’m most likely going to need a new washer aren’t I?

My washing machine recently started making a "clunk" noise, when it stops the wash cycle and goes to rinse/spin. Good thing I'm moving and appliances are "as is" as per the agreement.

Before dropping a thousand bucks on a new one, pull this one apart. The upside is there is lots of room to see and access to determine what has failed. Once you know what broke, you are in a far better position to decide repair/replacement. Do it sooner rather than later. You don't want to be a week behind on laundry when you start.

I've already told her 'smaller loads, less soap'. That discussion didn't go well last night.

But I'm already preparing for the worst, and may need a repairman for it. I can't be without a washer for a week while I figure it out. 3 kids + 3 adults...we know how it goes.

@backmarker , Trus Joist ( made by Weyerhaeuser) span charts are on line , LVL should be included. I used to sell them. Google Trus Joist . If you can’t find what you need let me know .
I sell truckloads of LVL now , but as a remanufactured product , door inserts and solid core doors , window reinforcement and skylight frames ect.
I no longer touch residential beams .

Rona stores which will soon be Lowes ( or closed) are clearing appliances like they are on fire . A new one is probably cheaper than a service call .

You might as well budget for a washer AND dryer. They have to match you know. You may want to avoid that whole 'conversation'

I’ve had the “smaller loads or it’ll break” conversation a few times but after a week it’s forgotten. And in fairness I do half the laundry.

This was exactly what I was looking for. Terminology was my trip up, I was searching for "beam" instead of "trus joist"! While the calculators did not include my exact scenario I could extrapolate it...

The manufacturer data sheets give the "strength" information but then I would have to do all the engineering calcs.... the above is way better in this case.

thanks!

Had that issue with my new fridge. In under 8 months the balls were falling out of the drawer glides inside. I called sorry "normal wear and tear". I Stood My Ground. "ball bearing failing in less than a year is not "normal" wear and tear". They ended up shipping me the glides and I installed them myself.
