Hey guys, got this letter from Enbridge (my local gas supplier) they need to replace my meter. Haven't looked at the schedule yet, the letter doesn't specify when they will be in the area, and my schedule is kinda bonkers right now, + the holidays coming up.
Just wondering if there is any stupidity I need to watch out for with this kinda of work/service?
Took a morning for the contractors to remove the slate surround and lift out the old jacuzzi tub from the surround. For the first time ever on a reno job everything looks reasonably OK with no big surprises (so far). The faucets were leaking for a bit apparently but no serious damage under the old tub. Water was off for maybe 10 mins while they added shark bite fixtures to the old water lines. The old slate tiles came off too easily apparently. They weren’t bonded properly.
Tomorrow they are bringing in a sawzall to cut the old tub into bits to get it out the house.
Be very careful when buying mobility goods. The buyer is usually vulnerable in a stressed condition and the sellers will try to talk you into "the best" for your loved one. Used equipment is like used furniture. Hard to sell on the usual places, but the place you bought it from will gladly take it off your hands.. And then sell it as reconditioned at a huge markup.
It's a cruel business.
From personal experience.
True. Every resident at my dad’s LTC home gets highly pressured to buy a new wheelchair under a gov program that covers $4500 of the tab. The OT recommending chairs get a huge commission, they can be relentless at selling.
I bought my dad a top of the line Quickie before he went into LTC. An independent OT set it up for him and it was perfect.
When he moved into LTC, the OT played on my moms emotions, they kept telling her dad wasn’t comfortable in that chair, and the PSWs were having trouble getting him out, causing him unnecessary discomfort.
I caved for my moms sake, but instead of buying it thru the OT, I got it from a local med supply store.
They may relight your pilots as the majority of homeowners have no idea. Or maybe they don't but you should be around to do it. Being away for two weeks with no working furnace would be bad.
Our best friend sells wheelchairs , your sell price as an agent is govt regulated if your selling to a govt client that needs assistance. Which is almost all of them . The stuff is stupidly expensive because it’s not exactly one size fits all , to be proper for someone that “lives” in a chair fit is everything, so it’s semi custom . Stuff like airport chairs are cheap , quad chairs with mouth operated remotes , yeah that’s a whole other game .

90+ neighbour calls me in August to turn OFF the pilot light in her front room. The pilot light looks more like a Zippo going full tilt. Not sure who re-lights it for her in the fall.

My meter somehow got filled with water this summer. When Enbridge replaced it, they bled the lines to my gas powered things. Only my hot water has a pilot, the relit that.

My grandmother in ltc "needed" a $3000 wheelchair. I don't think she ever sat in it and it was mysteriously missing when she was gone and we tries to pick it up to give it to someone else. Robbers.

I was doing a job at a senior's home that was hard to get into, unless you were selling your house and the manager's son got the listing. Someone picked up on that and the place got a new manager.
