Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

I agree although I've seen a clearance letter for a subdivision with close to 1000 houses in it.
"Letterhead
The grading is in general conformity with the approved plan.
Signed xxx."

No survey, no levels, just drive around and stamp a letter. I wouldn't be surprised if some had ponding from day one.
In a lot of places drainage is covered by bylaws. It won't matter how or when a grade came out of compliance, or whether it passed at a prior inspection. What matters is whether it complies if engineering comes out to inspect again.

They will make the call, around here they ask the homeowner to comply. If they font, the order them yo comply, after that they will gave a contractor fix the problem and luenbthe property for the cost.

Apparently that neighbour had a pond and paved over their entire rear yard.

Makes it about a foot higher than mine…and I assume drains into my yard, but I can’t prove it as I didn’t physically see water coming to my yard from theirs.

Although I do want to kill their bush that’s pushing my entire fence down.

Neighbor has a few messed up shingles.
I'm hoping our new pool cover isn't penetrated.
He's hoping his roof isn't penetrated.

He was going to have the tree trimmed this winter, but something interfered.
I've been wearing a hard hat when in the backyard today.

Probably out of contravention with zoning by-law for hardscape. You'd need to check the specific applicable by-law but from the generic mississauga one:

4.2.5.XX.3 Minimum landscaped soft area in the yard containing the driveway and walkway (%) 40% of the rear yard

Landscaped Soft Area means any outdoor area on a lot, located at grade, that is suitable for the growth and maintenance of grass, flowers, shrubs, trees and other vegetation, and including landscaping materials such as rocks and edging materials, but shall not include hard surfaced areas, such as driveways, aisles, parking areas, interlocking stone, and walkways. (0190-2014), (0212-2015)

I need a drone…

I’ve always wanted to tryout a backhoe but I’m thinking in middle of a 15 acre field is where you want to be for your first experience.

Same here. Digging a pond seems about right. Other than falling in it shouldn’t be ready to screw up.
My buddy built a home with a long driveway and after getting obscene prices for doing the driveway he bought a used dozer and taught himself how to use it while he made a driveway.
Sold it afterwards for a slight profit so driveway cost him nothing.

Trials had a proper excavator for similar reasons. His plan was to sell it but it was a fun toy so I dont know if he ever did.

If he was warned he is liable for damages and insurance will tell him to take a hike as he failed to mitigate damages.

It looks like fence and maybe pool damage. It could have landed on a kid.

We were at Port Perry behind the Wendy's / Timmies and decided to eat our food close to the lake. We sat 100 feet from an old tree and later heard a thump. A 6" branch fell and landed 10 feet from a lady that did sit under the tree.

A branch that size dropping from 30 plus feet is lethal.

My boss from a million years ago bought a dozer to clear a large lot up north , it paid for itself in the first summer , he then got a rubber tired backhoe/loader and spent the next 15yrs doing odd jobs for nieghbors , trenching and ditches and the odd dock area improvements. This was before the MNR would handcuff you for a hoe near the waterfront.

We're pretty much back to that, except with lots of tree branch debris, and non functioning traffic signals.
I'd stay away for a couple of days, as Ottawaians/Gatineauians (Hull) don't understand that they need to stop for these lights,
and blast through at 80 kph or more.

A marina on the Holland River wanted to excavate a basin to put in more slips so the called in the MNR.

MNR: "If you proceed without studies and approvals you will get a massive fine"

Owner: "How much"

MNR: "Fifteen hundred dollars"

Owner: "Stop by the office on your way out and pick up a cheque."

One slip's rent would pay the fine.

Now you get a fine + cease operations, and if they are being vindictive, they can include historic spaces as they “ assess” . Unless your very well funded , it’s a dangerous game to mess with

So that’s the lawn dethatched with my electric dethatching thing. Ran over the old thatch with a mulching mower. Overseeded the lawn with seed and fertilizer . No idea if it’s too early but it sure feels like it’s a good time to do it today. Absolute beauty of a day.

I'm still trying to get rid of a bleeping toboggan hill so I can see the whole lawn. Hours of snow blowing to build it, about an hour to shrink it earlier this week and then a bunch of work with a shovel as the snowblower cant deal with the core. It was 7' tall, now we are down to 2'.

Helped some of the neighbourhood people take apart the remaining ice rink. They build two every year. One on a basketball court and one on the infield of a baseball diamond.

Last of my garden snow went last week with the monsoon we had.

Kevin made a good shed….but I think I need to tear the whole thing down so I can clad the entire house properly.

Not sure if to return the shed to current location and lose some internal space…or just build a new one elsewhere in the yard…

If the shed is good, I would put hardie around the shed. Leave the hidden brick for the next sucker that buys your house.

Shed is good. But we have another spot that would be nice for a shed, and we could use this space and make a sitting area also for larger functions.

I think the proper way is to tear down the shed, clad the house (and more importantly insulate the house).

That wall is one of the coldest in the house.
