Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

While not perfect, couldnt you isolate domestic water? That gets rid of a lot of failure points. If the pump or pressure tank leaks, at least that's in the utility room with a drain.
We lost a toilet connection, it ran for about a month before a neighbor noticed and called us. We only lost the carpets and a bit of drywall, but it still was an expensive claim.

I put a WIFI actuator on the water valve main -- cheap solution I can switch off using my phone. I think I paid $50 on Amazon.

I would also be paranoid. For some reason my wife preferred engineered hardwood flooring in the kitchen instead of tile.

Our ice maker is only crushing ice. Can’t seem to get it to actually provide the cubes.

Anyone have any clue about that?
Safest way is to unplug fridge or turn off breaker. I would just Open the door to disable the crusher. Reach up in and wiggle the crusher/flaps. They often get stuck or jammed with a piece of ice. If the flap is stuck, fridge stays on crush only.

Us non ballers use the tray with the little dividers. Actually have to reach inside the freezer to get them out. It's a hard life.

I feel like a pauper. I have to take the tray out and take cubes out by hand.

FML. How do you people live like this? Ice cubes are what separate us from the animals.

My fridge has an icemaker in the freezer - when I bought it the salesman asked if I wanted to buy replacement water filters because they are supposed to be changed every six months. Of coarse I asked how much, and he pointed me to the display that had them at $49.99 each.

Needless to say I have never once used the ice maker. In no world am I paying $100/year to filter water for ice cubes.

I still use the old aluminum ones with the big handle on top to release the massive cubes. The aluminum is slowly giving me Alzheimer's, I believe.

If I bought a fridge with an icemaker , I would install an under-the-counter Rainfresh filter and feed it from there, and put a dedicated faucet beside the sink while I'm at it. I drink tap water and sometimes wonder about doing so. But I always let the water off-gas in a big pitcher for several hours to reduce the chlorine levels.

Amazon sells perfectly good off brand filters. The only OEM filter that’s been in my fridge for 7 years was the one it came with. The off brand ones are about 3 for less than the price of one OEM.

Does anyone make a bypass kit for the filter I feel like it is a waste of time and resources?

You should be able to make one out of an old filter.

The filter in our fridge makes the water noticeably better. Municipal water here is obviously safe but doesnt taste great.

Not sure I trust gluing one back together. We have some of the best water in the world flowing out of our well no point in filtering it but haven't found a better option.

99% chance that the proprietary filter fitting just has two hoses on barbs on the back of it. One coupling and you can bypass the whole filter block. This assumes you can get there and they didnt encase it in expanding foam.

Make sure to read the reviews. Last time I bought, I came across a few examples with a string of recent failures that I steered away from.

That’s a fair point. I got one lot that didn’t seem to do anything. Found another that did and stuck with it ever since. Sometimes there’s the Amazon’s choice or Amazon’s basics ones for your fridge, those are pretty safe bets. Never had a leak from these at all. I always buy 3 at a time so I’m not short if the seller ever stops for a bit.

Spread out 1.5yd3 of soil around the house into each garden bed.

FML I prefer working instead of gardening.

But I was told I can take the bike out during the week if it gets done. Can’t do Friday 13th though :( MIL has a cardiologist appointment that she can’t skip.

At least you can do yardwork without getting poison ivy. Seems no matter how much I cover up I still get it. UN-fun fact: when poison ivy leaves rot and turn into dust it still affects skin......badly.

We’ve got a bunch of Poison Ivy up in Wasaga. Neighbour doesn’t do anything with his yard as it’s vacant land so it grows and spreads.

He got upset that I called the township on him as I couldn’t control his ivy from my property.

My only response was ‘been here 20 years and never seen you in my life. How was I supposed to know who to call?’

We’re cool now as he understood once I explained. ‘Now I’ll know when to find you to tell you and fix it yourself instead of having the town come out again.’
