Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Just time for a new color I have hated the orange since we moved in 6 years ago. Now that I am doing the floor it is easier to paint without anything down. Using the premier paint from CT decorators white in flat. Also get rid of the stupid gloss white ceiling.

I meant to ask you about this. I've heard it's not good to paint your basement walls or floor if you plan to install something over it. One reason it might flake off anyway due to some moisture trapping between etc. But every home I've looked at has always had walls floors painted.

Most heat pump tanks want something like 40 amps as they have conventional resistance elements in them for high demand times. The heat pump itself uses a lot less. You can disable resistance heat but I'm not sure if code would allow smaller wire in that case as it would be easy to overload circuit (which would pop breaker but it's still a bad idea).
There are some available now that don't have the elements and only need 10amp at 220

I've got a 60A cable that I ran before buttoning up the garage. It's terminated in the laundry room where the tank is.

Actually need to install that damn sub-panel sooner rather than later. Wife is getting frustrated of a hanging 6Gauge cable...I keep telling her it's worth it's weight in gold.

Walls are drywall over studs and ROXUL insulation floor is unpainted but will have DMX underlay before the laminate to keep the moisture away

While I love the insulation under the laminate the only issue I found is if there is a leak...you won't know for a while because it won't permeate up into the floor. Which is the point, but then you also find out about the problem much later on as the water keeps pooling and travelling until it has nowhere else to go.

Having had a house with basement leaks I went over this place with a moisture meter and damp testing paper strips especially since it has a basement wlkout.
Bone dry.

The roof on the other hand which was considered 'ok' had three ice dam leaks and I'm fixing drywall and getting roofer quotes.

Condos are looking better LOL

Tried to talk to a guy on my street that does roofs....english is the barrier.

'Want a quote for my roof to be re-shingled'
'OK'
'Do you do that?'
'Yes'
'What else do you do?'
'Everything, we do everything start to finish'
'OK well all I need is the roof shingle quote'
'We do everything, I come today'
'No...tomorrow'
'I come today, tomorrow too late'
'Too late for what?'
'I come today'
'No, don't bother'

That is exactly what I used for my floor, also unpainted.
Walls I used 2" XPS foam boards then a 2x4 stud wall with ROXUL. and drywall.

But I thought you were you painting some part of the floor and also covering that up?

Ah so have I a story to tell you.

So while I was doing my floor drain concrete thing. I also was doing my furnace problem. I disconnected my drain hose put it into a bucket temporarily while I looked at stuff.... well I forgot about it and it overflowed and ran under the DMX underlay eventually to my new concrete. I was like WTF something wrong with the drain, until I traced it back to the furnace....🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Our friends had a shut off within the house so that the line doesn't freeze outside. For some reason the valve started leaking a few months after they bought the house.

Woke up in the morning and the valve leaked all night long...30k worth of damage because for some reason it didn't drain (I don't know their layout)....new basement for them!

$2600 for the 50USGAL hot water tank installed. Not bad. Worse than the 1800 quoted 2 years ago. But less than I expected.

Literally what my dad just told me also lol. I'll have to see how much only the connection is. Dad and I can plumb it.

Trying to research the heat pump ones, as depending on the difference it may be worth it.

Ugh...now I got thoughts of going tankless....damnit.

Too many options out there.

Finally got everything back together. Here's the before VS after of my laundry room. Just need one piece of quarter round to make the tile->under cabinet transition nicer, then its finally done. All in I'm $1650 into this 28sqft room, but I think it was worth it.

Very nice transformation @48Connor.

Just got my quote for a new AC also, might just pull the trigger on that and a new hot water tank. The AAC was stupid loud and starting to rattle…and the hot water tank is 16 years old so going to HE (power vent?) may be time.

Are you going heat pump the furnace is likely as old as the AC
