(Electricians)Wiring up a 240v garage heater

Im looking to pick up a Mig welder and the kind of Specs I want require a 240V Outlet damit!!! The ones that run off the 110-120V just seem weak sauce. For some without Welding experience should I just go for the Cheapo 110-120V ones?

How much does it cost to run a 240V Line? Any Ideas

How far would you want the plug from your electrical panel? And how many amps is this welder going to draw?

Well the pannel is downstairs in the basement on the other side of the house. To run it all the way across the front, possibly 40-50 feet. (My house is wider than it is deep) From there it would be in the garage, another 10-15 Feet would be able to place it almost anywhere in the garage. I havent measured it but that shoud be a reasonable estimate.

220V, 30Amps is whats noted on the welder.
I think some one mentioned if your going to the trouble of runing the wire might as well have a 220V 60am service with another box or something.

Ya a sub panel in the garage could be convenient for future expansion.

Its the wire that's going to cost you. Hopefully your basement is unfinished.

free advice from real electricians is good stuff, its rediculous how these discussions go to "pull a permit for a bulb change". Follow all the rules for stapling and wires crossing over wires and minimum and maximum lengths and all the stuff a ticketed electrician should do and make it neat and tidy and professional looking.
The codes didn't get created to punish us and make us buy 10/2 when 12/2 might work, its there to protect us.
