There is that aspect. But then, about that Ukraine situation ...

Note the bit about (vague) security assurances in return for Ukraine giving up the former Soviet Union's nuclear weapons that were on its territory and joining the nuclear non-proliferation treaty. So, yes, in that situation, the West (including the USA among others) has some level of obligation to Ukraine.
I think you're taking the opinion of the author. The only obligation for the signators is to respect Ukraine's sovereignty, and if Ukraine is invaded, to raise the issue to an actionable vote at the UN Security Council.

That was done.

And maybe at 78 he folds in his White House chair .

I have no interest in visiting the US in the near future. Any flights south have been non-stop for years so I avoid the place in general.

I’ve bumped into Americans past that couldn’t hide their distaste for a black president and made it known. At least some of these voters couldn’t stomach a female president let alone a black female president. Their choice of leader seems to suggest that law and order is only really a concern if you don’t have the right coloured skin. Their choice of politics means more meddling from utter lunatic religious types and more than a casual disregard for science and facts in general. When I choose to mingle among people these are all the traits I avoid if I can as I find them distasteful and the people with them often not that interesting or just plain objectionable. I have American friends here that are not like that so I know they exist. Many of the Americans I know are from my work in an educational environment and I know they too are not like that. I wonder how they feel about their career choices right now.

You know that cause and effect here is not instant right?
Wonderful. So we can continue to reward and degrade past administrations, issue with that is people love to move the goalpost when it suites them. Is it your position a 'weak' administration gets a pass on conflicts arising during their term?

Also you appear to have contradicted yourself btw.

It will hurt me personally , Trump hates the softwood lumber agreement ( allegedly) and is (supposedly ) going to whack tariffs on other product I ship into the US .
But first he’ll need a couple years to extract his pain and revenge tour on those that opposed him so it may take a while .

Protectionism in the Canadian lumber industry is big.

Standing timber is sold to Canadian mills below market price. Harvesters get wage subsidies up to $10K/per employee, feds subsidize the building of lumber roads, forest management, and equipment purchases.

That's why they call industry players Lumber Barrons.

He's certainly going to **** in it.

We're pretty good!

Here's how the US electorate voted, and how GTAM predicted.

On a side note, I thought Melania died as haven't seen her in ages ... she popped up for a photo op last night. Guess they thought she was a hindrance to the campaign??

Odds they dump Joe and make her the president for the remainder of the term?

I really hope the rest of the world has made contingency plans for operating without US participating in the world, because that's what I see happening.

I’ve read that Democrats are traditionally more protectionist/isolationist than Republicans.

Trump's win probably prevented them. Or at least another insurrection...
Pretty sure there were riots last time he was in.

No one gets a pass. No wars just doesn’t mean what you think it means if you set in motion a chain of events that makes the world a less safe place somewhere down the line. Trump did that as he has no clue about world affairs outside of his single digit IQ simple reasoning. Here it’s relevant to bring up the past because that gave the electorate a reason to think about the future with the same guy. Leopards/spots etc.

This pretty much wraps up why it seems a bunch of people have very short memories and are just plain dumb.

Sure Biden fluffed lines and lost his way and had a serious decline in abilities and had to step aside. Sure Harris wasn’t the best choice among Democrats (I think Buttegieg would have been great) but do they have anything like the train wreck of prior behaviour Trump has? “Making Libs cry” sure is going to be an expensive way of spending the next few years for Americans.

On the opposite side if the Republicans had fielded another candidate I think they’d have been more than a shoe-in and been able to unhitch themselves from the crazy train. I kind of long for the days when reasonable republicans existed such that meaningful progress could be made somewhere in the middle. As it is the poll of nations that approve of a Trump presidency is populated more or less uniquely by former or current eastern block dictatorships or hardline pro Russian states. That’s kind of telling.

I look forward to revisiting this conversation in 4 years. However, i would add; if you get all the criticism then you also get all the credit.

To your point, this was the Democrats election to lose. Perhaps a lot of them should be saying something similar for their policies/candidates.

So let me ask you this, as someone with that mindset; If a voter hypothetically voted Liberal in any election since 2015, would they not be contributing to feeding the machine? In Canada things took a hard left immediately and have shown no interest in going in any other direction.

I consider myself centre-right but i could just as easily go centre-left. However the inmates who escaped the asylum and are now sitting in government have a long way to get back to any semblance of 'middle', imo.

That might be a nice thing if Joe stepped down and let Kamala play President for a few weeks -- like when Mulroney did for Kim Campbell.
