Curious to know if the Democrats will take anything away from this defeat in regards to the nomination process that was side stepped. I know Obama was not pleased with how it all went down at all.

You mean, admit fault? LOL.......

Oh no no.... this will be laid at the feet of racism, sexism, gluten, etc.....

Protectionism will not work - it will hurt more Americans a lot more than it does Canadians. Not to mention the loose cannon driving the ship.
I think you may have some of your economic terms conflated.

Protectionism is an economic policy that shields a country’s domestic producers from fair competition, foreign or domestic. Ontario's Milk and Chicken boards are protected from fair competition using subsidies, quotas, tariffs, and border trade barriers.

Tariffs on Unfair Trade Practices are duties imposed on specific imports considered to be produced or traded unfairly. This is usually due to gov't subsidies, or violations of internationally acceptable environmental or labor regulations, and as a countermeasure to another country's Protectionism. Examples: Chinese steel, aluminum and EV's produced with government subsidized resources, and Canadian softwoods harvested at $2/tree off crown lands are considered to reduce producer costs unfairly so they are tariffed. Can also be for counteracting another country's Protectionism.

A few observations:

1. I never knew Alzheimer’s was contagious
2. What I thought about the average intelligence of Americans is woefully incorrect. George Carlin had this one right.
3. Odd to have a G7 head more widely liked by an actual enemy of the G7
4. Wildly promising everyone ponies despite not having any ponies does actually work

I wonder if it was the lies, felony convictions, the sexual assaults or the admiration of Putin that drew all the voters in?

Trump voters now: Look at me, I cut my arms off and now I’m more aerodynamic!

Trump voters in a few years: “Hey Cletus, why am I earning peanuts picking lettuce on a farm or cleaning toilets? And why did that Orange guy not make me more wealthy?”
You should get out and talk to some Americans face-to-face. You'll find the odd zealot, but no more or less than you'll find here. Nobody will ask about your political beliefs before pouring your coffee, selling you new bike tires, or renting you their Air BnB. If you wear a Maga or Kamala TEE shirt, you'll collect thumbs-up gestures from the like-minded, the ones with other alliances will peacefully walk on by -- not punch you in the face.

If you do meet Cletus, he's more likely sweating his ass off running a sawmill or fixing trucks because he's not asking his gov't for handouts to pay his bills If he has a gun or bible, it will be for him - he'll let you decide on your own whether you need one. He may have no teeth and a grade 12 education, but I'll bet he understands democratic principles and the way his government works better than you understand yours.

The weather's nice... hop on your bike, head south and do a 10+ day riding tour of America. Talk to some real people every day.

I suspect Kamala's team orchestrated the coronation. She was a big part of suppressing Joe's diminishing capabilities, and a big part of firing up the party to oust him. In a leadership race, she would be tagged with the same Biden economic, border, and crime issues. In a race, she'd also have to beat all the folks that eliminated her in the last leadership race.

This is an interesting topic.

Team America World Police.

Some feel that Superpower or not, the US (and others) should keep their nose out of other peoples business. Do they have a moral obligation to intercede?

There is that aspect. But then, about that Ukraine situation ...

Note the bit about (vague) security assurances in return for Ukraine giving up the former Soviet Union's nuclear weapons that were on its territory and joining the nuclear non-proliferation treaty. So, yes, in that situation, the West (including the USA among others) has some level of obligation to Ukraine.

I have no interest in visiting the US in the near future. Any flights south have been non-stop for years so I avoid the place in general.

I’ve bumped into Americans past that couldn’t hide their distaste for a black president and made it known. At least some of these voters couldn’t stomach a female president let alone a black female president. Their choice of leader seems to suggest that law and order is only really a concern if you don’t have the right coloured skin. Their choice of politics means more meddling from utter lunatic religious types and more than a casual disregard for science and facts in general. When I choose to mingle among people these are all the traits I avoid if I can as I find them distasteful and the people with them often not that interesting or just plain objectionable. I have American friends here that are not like that so I know they exist. Many of the Americans I know are from my work in an educational environment and I know they too are not like that. I wonder how they feel about their career choices right now.

For an unsafe world, it did pretty good.

Let's see if he can double down.

You know that cause and effect here is not instant right?

It's well proven that people react more to how they feel than what they are promised.

When Americans, (like Canadians) don't feel positive about their economic prospects, security, safety, and the future of their families - they are most likely to look for change - they have lived under Trump and Biden policies, they know which made them feel better.
More and more people are feeling cheated and turn to radicalizing cheaters to fix the problems.

OK... oddly, I didn't have that issue. But thanks.
I can't get the link but assume the off the wall woke attitude did the Democrats in. As much as I would have preferred Harris there is a limit to the woke BS that people will stand.

Trump stomped on the woke down there. Up here he has to go up against the most inept, corrupt, disliked government one can imagine. Ducks in a barrel come negotiation time and we're banning guns.

Slap with the left or right hand, it'll still hurt.

Only time will tell whether the rift grows bigger or not. Some workers saw their taxes go up under Trumps tax plan due to several credits and deducations not being covered anymore (look at the Unreimbursed Job Expenses section, yikes)
But people being affected, mostly middle class...didn't seem to care.

But yeah i guess Kamala had a tall order to be the first woman to become the "first woman" and the first woman of colour to become first woman. And then you had the anti-israel people who didnt want to support her... it's was a perfect $hitstorm for them.

Some of the weird stuff they were promoting made me think they had legalized pot. Now it seems that is out the door. It may help our tourist industry if we can get enough stoners to visit.

It will hurt me personally , Trump hates the softwood lumber agreement ( allegedly) and is (supposedly ) going to whack tariffs on other product I ship into the US .
But first he’ll need a couple years to extract his pain and revenge tour on those that opposed him so it may take a while .
And maybe at 78 he folds in his White House chair .
