Did you exercise today?

Does anyone do weighted walks? I got back on my mountainbike a bit last year but I find I need to be out for a few hours to really get a good workout from it. My knees don't like jogging but I can walk without pain. I listened to a trainer that goes for a weighted walk once a week where he loads himself up with whatever he can comfortably carry and goes for a hike. I was considering loading up a comfortable backpack with some plates to start and cinch it down so it's not moving around and go for a hike in the 45-60min range and see how my joints agree with it.
This isn't to replace my normal weight routine, just more a cardio, full body strength thing.

There are many ways to add intensity to workouts, you could go military style and start walking with a loaded backpack.

If you find jogging is too hard on the knees maybe you were going too hard and your body wasn’t ready for it? You can always do a few very easy and short distance jogs and build up to full speed once you’ve built up some strength?

No. I might be on Covid #6. Not sure, but I run out of breath just going up stairs, and have to cough out a shot glass of the good stuff.

Soon enough, though. I just started doing deadlifts again after a three month layoff.

there's certainly something going around.

was rearing its head when i left mid january and my wife was laid out while i was gone. I had a persistent cough and lung butter coming up for 2 weeks.

it’s been shockingly hard to find good gyms after Mexico City, finally found one today and did some solid bike cardio and weight training

I've gone for walks wearing a weighted vest. It definitely ups the ante.

Rucking (weighted back or vest walks) are awesome.
Start close to 10 to 15% of your body weight to start safely and enjoy.

As for my training, still lifting but after a week of running, ive decided (along with some other triathlon friends) that i'm probably setting myself up for failure with all my weight gain. So i'm gonna pivot to cycling 3x per week , short run once a week and do at least 2 lifting sessions. Once i lose dem pounds ill up the running a bit more and by then itll be spring where i'll bike commute

See about going by a Canada Post distribution centre. You *MAY* be able to con your way into an old set of mail bags for free. Sure, they won't be too pretty. any more, but they're designed specifically for ergonomics. The majority of the weight is supported by the waist band. The shoulder straps take maybe 25% of the weight. There's a shorter clip that would be in the middle of the chest area to keep the shoulder straps from slipping off your shoulders. There are 2 more shorter straps as well, that attach at the front and rear. Each goes from left to right in order to keep the bags from shifting around too much on you. There's a TON of adjustability in this system to fit just about everyone's body dimensions.

The front of the right bag also has a built in water bottle holder. Left side has a pocket that is idea for snacks/phone etc.

Cool. I "may" have a vintage canada post bag that I found but it is a canvas bag more like a brinks money bag. Carrying weight in it for a long distance would be hell. I'm surprised CP doesn't put retired bags up for auction.

I have an un-understandable need to buy hats and bags.

A CP bag…fak I’d want.
Bald fellas always need hats… as for bags 🤷‍♂️

Also pro tip, if you want to blend in more, no one in Mexico wears shorts(or flip flops) jeans all day baby

I’m alright being a tourist. Shorts and sandals all day long.

Hell if I could get away with it I’d have no shorts on…but don’t feel like being arrested.

That’s a relay bag you’ve got, not a letter carrier bag.
We prep our mail and stuff it into the relay bags, which get delivered to roadside boxes on our route.

Most people think that when we leave the depot, we have all our mail for the entire day in our bags. Sadly, that’s not that case. We need to reload an average of 9-13 times a day depending on the daily mail/junk mail volume.

So euro of you :p

and yeah i agree the zerchers pose an additional level of ..challenge... oh well
i go up in squat weight once a week, and lift that 5x5 workout twice a week so im going up slower than you are
one day i try to do more unilateral stuff (split squat, weighted cossacks, etc) at a lighter weight and the other day i do kettlebell work
Gotta keep the workouts under 30 minutes for weights
Cycling isn't going as smoothly due to technical difficulties with my Elite Suito... but hopefully i get it fixed and figured out tonight.

Pączki day!

I would consider going Rucking (the fancy term for it 😁) regularly if there were more hilly terrain nearby for added intensity
If anyone lives close to a decently long and steep-ish hill, this would be a simple and effective workout that's also scalable

The are streets in Eureka Springs Arkansas so steep that when people walk up them you can their calf muscles screaming.

Anyone have thoughts on those small ‘walking treadmills’ for the house? Thinking of one of those simply for price and convenience factor.

Not sure I want a full on treadmill.

I think they are too small to be useful I have a full size and it is really not that big. I have been using it over the last few days and my blood pressure is coming back down surprisingly quickly. Just need to keep at it.
