Daylight savings time

For pilot style watches, I prefer Type B. Pic as a representative sample, not one I own.

just found this too…Seiko 5s are great little watches, automatic movement.

those are nice…

for a cheaper option I kind of like these from the AV-8 brand..

Even cheaper. Not swiss. No hand winding which is annoying. Not bad for the money though. Even has a display back for those that care. This one has some patina but it was on my wrist for years including wood splitting, mechanicing etc. That one came off for swimming and showering.

Edit: I see you already brought this up. I much prefer the 4Rxx movements to the 7Sxx movements but normally you have to jump a price class to get them.

Made in USA, Swiss movement.

people actually still wear watches! who would'a thunk it LOL

I personally haven't worn a watch since 2005 when I started teaching and all classroom have a clock in them...no need especially since my phone keeps time like @crankcall 's wife said :D

manjewellery …I appreciate having one as it saves having to drag a mini computer out of my pocket plus I appreciate the technology and craftsmanship that goes into these.

I have a Seiko SKX009K2 pepsi that everytime I wear, someone asks if its a Rolex haha

My favorite daily watch that is currently broken is a Marathon GPM which has tritium illumination. Kind of a novelty but when you work in the nuclear industry, most people who ask about it at work think its cool. Somehow the minute hand fell off and I haven't put any effort into finding a place to have it repaired.

I have an ok traser tritium that was my daily for quite a few years. It is noticeably dimmer now. Tritium in marginally priced watches doom them. It is great for a few years but it is not economically viable to refresh the tritium. Quartz so it deserves a sad face but I didnt take it off for years and it never had an issue. Once smartphones became ubiquitous, alarm was only used as a backup to make sure I got to airport on time.

I have the same one!!

Kinda annoying that it runs fast and I have to dial it back every few weeks.

My first ever automatic watch and I'm starting to get interested in watches.

I honestly cant remember on this one, but on many automatic watches you can regulate speed to fix that.

Edit:

Yup, easy to regulate speed. Open the back, move the lever to slow it down. If you were a shop, you'd want a timegrpaher to get it right the first time. Since you're a person, adjust and check in 24 hours to see what you need to do next to get it closer.

I think it’s 12-25 years depending on the capsule and amounts for tritium.

I’ve always wanted a Luminox and there’s some on sale here Luminox | Altitude Sports

Trying to talk myself out of it.…

on my shortlist is a DOXA, orange face, a Rotary super 7 , also orange and a pre moonwatch Omega Speedmaster . I am looking at a 1940's Rolex that was sold through the Px to soldiers going overseas , Its not expensive ( in Rolex dollars) and has a cool history.

I wear a watch everyday and feel underdressed without one. Wifey doesn't object loudly but thinks nobody needs more that one watch, its not about needs LOL

You guys are making me want to look at watches again! Glad I can't afford another expensive hobby...the motorcycle and kids keep the wallet empty.

So much watch talk, so little motorcycle content... (apologies for the mega-post, it formatted so nicely on my desktop...)

How about the Tissot T-Race line? They hand one out for pole, and they range from verging on (almost) okay to WTF:

Marquez does a Lotus signature (cheap junk, I assume, never heard of the brand)...

If you're looking for subtle and understated, look no further than the Dani Pedrosa signature from CVSTOS. It's either €34.99 or €34,990, and either one is possible:

And Rossi does what he does best: License some day-glo yellow and a number 46 to be slapped on any old tat, and it'll sell like hotcakes (in this case, TW Steel garbage):

Heading well down the rabbit hole, Googling 'motorcycle watch' brings up some real winners (aside from the 8 million Triumph-branded lifestyle accessories), ranging from hilarious junk (a compass! shock absorbers!) to interesting but wildly impractical overdesigns...

Lastly, two vaguely motorcycle-y watches I might actually wear, variously retro:

I’ve always liked the Steve McQueen Tag Heur. I can’t see myself buying a $1000+ watch ever though. If I get that I urge I just get someone to buy me a decent Chinese fake. Some of them are pretty well made. Had some guy waffle on about how it was good to find another “Tag man” until I shut him up by telling him it was a fake.

as above, my watch maker/fixer guy says do not use a watch winder, his logic is, would you leave your car engine running in the driveway so its ready when you want it?
At the current rate of Omega and Rolex service , having them sit idle a bit is just fine.

My pockets aren't deep enough for stupidly expensive watches , but I did have a pretty nice watch with sentimental value ruined by a hack watchmaker ( actually two of them) , so if there was ever a case of you get what you pay for , it may be watch repair.
By 1990 there were very few watchmakers left in Canada, most were approaching retirement or long retired. Most shops could change batteries, but past that they would sub repairs to wherever the master watchmakers could be found. Around 2005 the biggest in Canada closed moved operations to their US hq.

I've been away from the watch biz for a while, my small collection rarely sees the light of day, fortunately none have required service for decades.

Tag Heuer has them listed at $7,900-8,400. though I have no idea what a true street price is. Not for me, but I can at least appreciate the design. The Seikos are much cheaper, and I love the retro mashup of Italian and Japanese design. Sadly, the originals were plastic (in true '80s fashion), so most haven't aged well. The reissues are nice enough, but assembled in China and not the best of Seiko...

Many years ago my sister in law sent me a Swatch she picked up on her world travels. They weren't available here.

They were also noisy, sounding like a dripping tap. I was visiting a friend and he told his kid to check the kitchen tap and then five minutes later gave him a blast for not doing so. It was the Swatch.

My wife made me put mine in the sock drawer at night so she could sleep.

The only draw to the Monaco for me is the SMQ connection. I find it a bit odd looking.

And you have to wear one on your right wrist.
