Daylight savings time

Wow. I've never had a issue with self winding while wearing it. I let them stop when not wearing them. I get them going for a few days every few months to keep things loose. I figure that given the infrequent use, issues from wear in a watch winder will exceed issues from sitting.

as above, my watch maker/fixer guy says do not use a watch winder, his logic is, would you leave your car engine running in the driveway so its ready when you want it?
At the current rate of Omega and Rolex service , having them sit idle a bit is just fine.

My pockets aren't deep enough for stupidly expensive watches , but I did have a pretty nice watch with sentimental value ruined by a hack watchmaker ( actually two of them) , so if there was ever a case of you get what you pay for , it may be watch repair.

A friend has their dad's patek in a safe deposit box. They are a women and had three daughters and no sons. They've never had much money and I admire the commitment to the heirloom to keep it. I keep harassing her to pull it out sometime so I can see it.

A Rolex is best kept running. It's not a car. Without running it, the oils /lube used won't be as happy inside.
If you bought one, you knew going in, there's a 10yr recommended service cycle.

I've got 2 wind ups. Seldom use them, should sell, but I have a favorite.
I use my creaky old, broken down knee for weather forecasts.

if either is a Speedmaster 41mm no date, or submariner blk/stainless PM me , I'll help you out

That is not a problem with modern lubes.

A good independent watchmaker can service them for much less than taking them to the manufacturer. Some of the brands are making it difficult to get repair parts though (if anything is broken).

I'll stick with highly trained service techs for anything high end.
Be like taking the Veyron to jiffy lube.

Independent can be very highly trained. If their name is on the shingle, reputation is everything to them.

Also, imo, letting anything vintage (cars, watches, whatever) get near a factory tech is a bad idea. Factory techs are part swappers with new parts to bring things back to factory original. That's often not what you want as things age.

The big guns like Rolex started about 5 yrs ago making it very difficult to get parts , if your not Rolex certified ( pay the fees) and there is talk Omega and Patek will follow suit soon enough.

Im told ( and I can only go on what I'm told , I have no idea how a watch escapement works) the modern synthetic lubes used in watches can sit for years without the gum up , which is how guys can have 50 watches in safety deposit boxes

And just like that we have an oil thread......

Only quartz watches will need a battery tender.

I use black electrical tape, works like a charm all the time. Come spring, peel away the and bask in the glory of the green luminescence baby.

That’s a decent price

I cant wear a citizen watch , for the same reason as Breitling , there is just too much going on on the screen. I just want to know the time of day.

as wife says , your phone tells time also, about 99% more accurate than any watch you own, for about 5K less. Hate that she's right.

They aren’t all like that, just the Navi hawk and navitimer series I think. I did make an effort to learn how to use the slide calculator on it but my eyes are not small microscopes so it only has limited utility. I like the pilot style watches though.

For pilot style watches, I prefer Type B. Pic as a representative sample, not one I own.
