If a mechanical watch is running fast more times than not the balance spring has become magnetized. The spring sticks a little to itself which shortens the effective length of the spring making the watch run faster (throwing off the regulation so to speak). This can also happen with dirt making it stick but less common IMO....
Something to consider before breaking out the "golden screwdiver" and making DIY adjustments.
