Daylight savings time

Holy cow, 6 watches?? If I ever need to know what time it is, I know who to call!
It looks like there is only a 50% chance you get the right time.

Since wearing a garmin watch to be able to track things, decent watches only come out a few times a year. Wearing two watches looks dumb. Old tracking device didnt look like a watch so I would wear it on my right wrist and analog watch on my left. Even though I mostly ditched analog watches, garmin still lives on the right.

Watch self adjusts and so does the phone just the kitchen appliances which are always wrong anyway. Apparently the watch check in daily and fixes it self anywhere in the world.

My wrist watches are easy. I use them so seldom the batteries die and I need new batteries every couple years.

I may just buy a watch opening kit to replace the batteries myself.

Only batteries never died are my 2 CASIO watches. The old school ones.

You should be changing the watch oil then place them on a good tender each fall.

I think this came from ebay, works well.

NOOOOOO, there is a way better option!

Get the ball, they use friction and actually work better than the tools for screwbacks, and no risk of scratches (AND way cheaper). The only exception are screwbacks with a decal, they will take the decal off if you want it left on.... I stopped using the tool more than a decade ago (I use my old tool to service freewheels now...)..

True story.... I picked up a used Rolex at auction and opened it up to check it out and then put the back on and tightened it. Took the watch to my watchmaker to get fully serviced and he really struggled to get the back off with his tool (and the real pro tool not the one above...). I told him I used the ball, he refused to believe me and challenged me to bring the ball in next time I was in. On that next visit he used his professional caseback tool to tighten (really tight) the back on a Breitling he had in for service and handed it to me, I opened it right up with the ball, no problem--his faced dropped..... On my next visit he had a full assortment of the balls in different colours all lined up on his workbench. Pick below is stolen off the net....

If you want to check if they are still water resistant after your are done servicing them mp, stop by and we can run them through the tester.

@mimicopolak , take the batteries out of dead watches, they will eventually corrode and leak then your fubared.

those goofy casio/citizen watches with calculators and planetary sky charts and a link to the starship enterprise have started to hit collectability. Not my thing, all my watches are windups, but some folks dig that stuff.

Ages ago a friend told me his dad thought about buying him a self winding watch but didn't because he didn't move enough to keep it going.

This happened to my father. He was retired and sat on the couch all day. We bought him a Timex automatic and it never ran right when on his left wrist. Move it to the right and it was fine, the table was on his right and that is where he put his beer....

So we got him one with a battery....

Wow. I've never had a issue with self winding while wearing it. I let them stop when not wearing them. I get them going for a few days every few months to keep things loose. I figure that given the infrequent use, issues from wear in a watch winder will exceed issues from sitting.

I have a winder but I never use it anymore. There is lots of debate over letting a watch sit or going on a winder as far as wear, service interval, etc. but my main reason is it has a four watch capacity and I have over 40 watches and over half are automatics.... Collecting, I just decided that my mechanical watches will not have crazy complications that make them a PITA to set after they have sat for a while.....

I keep both of mine in a watch winder box.

I have a bunch of watches. My automatics were annoying me having to set them all the time so I bought a watch winder. That broke so no more autos for me. I like the eco power Citizens and have one like Scuba Steve’s with the atomic timekeeping thing. Weak signal here though so it doesn’t always set properly.

My current favourite is a Casio Protrek with all the sensor doodads on it. Thought those would be mostly unused but the barometer gives me a weather forecast that is surprisingly useful.

I've got 2 wind ups. Seldom use them, should sell, but I have a favorite.
I use my creaky old, broken down knee for weather forecasts.
