Daily sports car?

@POWERMAN I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY want the BRZ...however, my commute is 2.9km one way and I'm having a hard time justifying buying a new car when mine is totally fine...hubby says buy it, my heart says buy it, my mind says you don't need it...
Do it. I use to live across from Elizabeth Simcoe School in south Scarborough. There was a teacher that drove a Hummer who only lived 3 blocks away. Home for lunch to boot. Probably used more gas just to start than the actual drive.

Will you lose much on your current car if you sell it to buy the BRZ?

Not sure what the designer of that Z got but it should have been life. Fugly isn't even close.

@Relax I honestly have no idea what it's worth, haven't looked...it's a 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT with something like 67,000 km on it...absolutely no issues with it whatsoever...it's a manual so that limits the number of interested buyers, but it does have a panoramic roof which is ginormous!

I was going to say that the square grille clashes with the curves on the headlights, but I've changed my mind. The square grille clashes with everything on the rest of the car.

Given the market segment, they'll probably sell a few dozen of them, maybe a couple hundred ... and yes, that's sad, but people just aren't buying many sports cars.

The concept is closer to the "Z lineage" than the pre-pro, and looks like a Z. Put the headlights from the pre-pro in it, it would look better (IMHO), and would sell.....to the people that would want something in that niche.

You nailed it.

I personally love the look of the new Z. They’ll sell them for sure. But the dealers will get greedy and toss on thousands of additions to the car so they get much more over MSRP.

The higher spec versions are pretty nice (and a quarter million dollars or more). 100K is no longer exotic, but 250 is probably still in the club.

My point exactly. 250g and it doesn't look much different than a 10 year old 911.

They simply don't turn heads anymore

I guess a lot depends on what you consider necessary traits of an "exotic" car. Personally, I am more interested in something that blends in visually but is exciting to drive. I understand if someone wants an exotic to be loud and bright to show off.

Previous posts Sounded to me that the price tag is the qualifier

I've always preferred this definition:

"strikingly, excitingly, or mysteriously different or unusual"

I don't know about that. A mini with a busa motor (or vintage muscle car with EV swap or . . .) may fit that definition and I consider it in no way "exotic". I think there needs to be some extension of that definition to include an eye-watering price when new. Is a cheap "exotic" possible? Maybe an Alfa 4C? I don't consider it exotic but you sure don't see a lot of them and it looks strikingly different.
