A lot more people also got the flu shot (vaccine) this year due to the pandemic....

Annual flu ranges from the CDC for the US 2010 to 2020:

9.3M to 45M sick
140K to 810K hospitalized
12K to 61K dead

COVID19 numbers this last year....

20M positive tests
Total hospitalization for the year is not available but there are 70K to 120K people in hospital for COVID (depends on data source) in the US JUST TODAY!
350K dead

"Just a bad flu" is typical sheeple thinking.

It is also obvious from the data (as opposed to Trumper Narrative) the cost of the do next to nothing approach vs lock-downs, etc. Of course if you want to be more like the US (or Sweden), call out our Ontario PC Government, as lock-downs etc. are their prerogative in Ontario.

Stats say more males die from it, that might **** off a lot of males ?

@mimico_polak ... just read everything he says in an uncle fester voice and it totally works
Typical of people that have nothing intelligent to say start with personal insults .

"Los Angeles is rationing oxygen as it’s in short supply."

 now there's a headline.

It is an interesting problem. They have the Army Corps of Engineers trying to help solve part of the problem. Hospital systems are designed to supply xxx cubic feet per minute. If you have too many patients needing oxygen, they exceed the capability of the regulator and/or heat sink.

More contagious than the flu....more deadly than the flu....different symptoms than the flu...different and longer lasting effects than the flu. Only just got a vaccine for this disease...not implemented fully yet.

Lock down the vulnerable. Who chooses? You may be vulnerable if your genes aren’t correct. You can transmit this to people. It doesn’t matter if it doesn’t affect you.

This is just dumb now.

Both appear to be very similar . The VID just appears to be more serious with people that have other illnesses and the elderly .

I is effecting everybody right now . I'm pretty sure if you have respiratory problems , out of control diabetes and obesity . You probably know it and should take serious precautions . The government should be helping these people . Locking down old age homes . Not forcing healthy people into lock downs .

You are correct this is just dumb but not just now long time ago .

So you must be sure that the healthy people aren't the ones that are spreading it. Your reasoning is devoid of logic.

Not forcing healthy people into lock downs .

Good point - at the end of the day it is the 'younger' people that need to access old age homes and palliative care to look after the old and sick : (

Now, who is excited to go visit Wuhan after they released their new tourism ad?
Not sure whether to feel insulted or happy.

Can you explain the logistics of locking down nursing homes for 18 months? How are they cared for? All staff also get locked down during this period? How much would someone have to pay you to have no physical contact with your family or friends for 18 months? A PSW makes slightly more than minimum wage. How many multiples of that was your number? I suspect many doctors would just say f this, I don't want to be a part of this. Does the army have enough doctors competent in geriatic medicine to provide the required staffing?

I would hazard a guess that FIFO may be a reasonable model. They provide room & board and compensation roughly doubles. @mimico_polak can confirm if these assumptions are accurate. The required quarantine periods really screw it up though. If you wanted staff to have times in and out and accounted for quarantine times (where the staff are still being paid) you probably have shifts that are months long. Weeks long shifts with weeks of quarantines are not viable.

You've had a year of this. You've had scientific experts bombard you with the same advice day on day. You've had warnings. Papers have been published and yet you still cling on to selfish idiotic populist beliefs.

Want to hazard a guess at why we keep having lockdowns?

No...the advice isn't dumb, but some people are and they are prolonging the pain.

Can confirm. My salary dropped 50% when I left FIFO....I cry to my bank account weekly when bills come! LoL So tempted to go back! But then I play with my kids and salary be damned.

FIFO is great as you can control access fairly well. My old site unfortunately had a small outbreak recently (5 confirmed) and the BC gov't stepped in and reduced capacity by 50%. That's 160 people plus or minus.

Got a sniffle? quarantine while your test results await
Sore throat? same as above
Cough? same as above

They've done a good job overall. I'm shocked it took this long.

Spare us the fake outrage. Your avatar is Uncle Fester, so an Uncle Fester joke isn't exactly out of line.

If my avatar was a clown I'd expect clown jokes, and wouldn't be confused why people are making them.

1:50 infection rate in the UK right now. More lockdowns announced. They are very very worried about hospitals coping. 500 deaths a day and increasing.

Los Angeles is rationing oxygen as it’s in short supply.
UK population is about 68 million, 1/5 the USA so they are at about the same death rate per million but the USA has dropped a bit. Canada's accumulated death rate is about 1/2 the USA. Present day by day results may show significant differences. There are lots of factors so not a simple comparison.

You can have people do 3 or 6 month stints just like on oil rigs . They somehow get people to do it . Money talks . Spending a few billion instead of 300 billion .

And this is how that can go bad...

I don't know what happens if you ask too much of the oxygen supply. Does it fail gracefully or *&^^ the bed? Presumably they installed something good for xxx cfm and needed more than that. I have no idea what safety factor the suppliers install on pressure/temperature regulation. On a normal day, the heat exchanger on a hospital oxygen supply is a huge block of ice so presumably if you applied external heat to it, you could increase capacity, but safely heating a giant oxygen supply is risky business.
