LA Times says it's getting ugly down there.

Triage looks like it's going back a couple centuries where the term originated, three groups.

In the Napoleonic wars the badly injured were left to die, the slightly injured could fix themselves and resources were used for the ones that would die without help but live with it.

Are we getting there?

Technically it's a shortened form of COrona VIrus Disease, so if you pronounced COVID using the original words, it would sound like Caw-vaee-d...
Potatoe, potato.

I did....focus...you’re getting left behind.

anyway....thought we were locked down? Wife is getting emails that Hand and Stone is open and taking appointments now...wtf.
I don't recall my massage therapist being closed . People with injuries require this medical service .

Sad but expected. Triage has been happening in parts of the US for quite a while in this mess. The previous story I saw was for patients arriving to ER, there was limited capacity so some were basically left to die as providing the level of care required to maybe save that patient would put many other lives at risk as they would not get appropriate timely care.

Last I heard, local hospital is at 66% icu capacity and climbing. Entire hospital over 90% capacity.

A nurse I know called called in to a kawartha hospital at 03:00 near xmas as the ICU was in dire straights and didnt have enough people. She worked until 07:30 (presumably when the next shift arrived). Needing to call in icu nurses in the middle of the night is not good.

I thought for sure they were locked down during the first lockdown. But maybe I’m just getting old and forgetful.

There will still be people thinking this is all a hoax, and that we should throw open the doors of every business and school.

Doesn’t matter how in their face the truth is....they just won’t accept it for whatever reason. Be it God, conspiracy theory, idiocy, ignorance, or just willful denial.

However, I will admit that some more of my friends are agreeing it’s real once they almost lost their parents to it. Seems like a bunch of our relatives in Poland had it. Some worse, some better but they’re not testing easily so it’s not 100%.

You are correct. Massage therapists were closed for first lockdown, but regulated health practitioners are allowed to be open currently. This also includes physio, chiro, etc., who were similarly affected by the first lockdown.

Osteopathic Manual Practitioners are an example of a health practitioner that is not regulated and therefore not currently allowed to practice under the current lockdown. Many massage therapists, physiotherapists and chiropractors also also trained in osteo techniques and may incorporate those techniques into their treatments, but they can not bill for these services.

Burlington (JBH) just officially opened their Covid tent. They built it in wave 1 but never needed it. They expect to need it soon. ~50 more beds for covid patients.

You and the few that post here every few minutes are parroting the politicians and the TV . I never heard once from rational people this is a hoax . What we belive this is over blown .

Why is the whole population locked down not the vulnerable? When you look at the numbers in Ontario total deaths under 70 are 592 . Total deaths over are 3811 this is right from the Ontario Covid 19 stats . In a province of 14.5 million . Why did they not lock down the old age homes months ago . A private company can lock down the NHL to play games . You can lock down the old age homes . Give monetary incentives to people working there . Get them to stay in hotels . Isolate them and the sick . Provide tax breaks to people that are at risk to stay home . I'm sure a doctor can provide proper documentation as to who is at risk . You can spend several billion to the few at risk rather them 300 billion plus to people that are not . The numbers are high because it's flu season . They rise every year this time of year . The politicians are putting this on the medical officers of health they are life time burocrats . Their jobs are secure they get a paycheck no matter what . When Deville was asked point blank if there further restrictions on buinesses are due to higher cases . She refused to answer and gave political double talk . Look at the stats on the link below . No reporters are comparing numbers from previous years . No one has the flu this year . No one mentions that people dieing from the VID usually have other illnesses .

I'm not a denier but this is a bad flu . Most healthy people have nothing to worry about . The stats prove it . If any of the reporters start looking at the side effects of the VID . Like cancer , heart disease, suicides , over doses , spousal abuse and many others . These plus the wild spending of the government will be the real story of Covid19.

I wonder if all the people sitting at home collecting cash would change their mind if their income went from 6k a moth to 2k on unemployment.

Ok the usual bunch start the pecking .

More contagious than the flu....more deadly than the flu....different symptoms than the flu...different and longer lasting effects than the flu. Only just got a vaccine for this disease...not implemented fully yet.

Lock down the vulnerable. Who chooses? You may be vulnerable if your genes aren’t correct. You can transmit this to people. It doesn’t matter if it doesn’t affect you.

This is just dumb now.

I get really ****** off when age is brought into the discussion. If it only killed people over the age of 70, would it mean it was less dangerous?

@pfbmgd Not sure what you're getting at. I never said it's a hoax, frankly I am having more and more friends of mine that are getting it. Some get it worse than others, and some come out of it with no issues (and these are people that are confirmed with positive test results).

Am I perfect in following guidelines? Hell no. Far from it. But I try my best.
Is it worse than the flu? Yes, I believe so
Is it more dangerous than the flu? Yes, I believe so
Is the government response proper? I don't think so. I think it needs to be more focused, and more clear in it's direction.
Is the economic fallout reasonable? I'm not smart enough to answer this question. But where do you draw the line?
Who is vulnerable? Many people are dying that had no visible/known condition. Unfortunately you or I can be part of that.
Consider the repercussions of your loves ones not being able to get medical help, because someone is sick with COVID and taking up that space.

A MAJOR concern is that our health system has capacity....whether COVID, flu, motorcycle accident, home accident, or idiocy....each person in that hospital takes away from another.

I get frustrated when I go into a Walmart as I don't really have much other choice, where I can buy video games, clothing, food, and prescriptions...some of those are non essential.
I'm frustrated when WINNERS opens up a food section, and now they're 'essential' because of 10-20 items of perishable foods.
I'm frustrated when my friend's restaurant can't open, but everything around him is able to be open.

Where is that line? I'm not sure. Like I said, I'm not smart enough to know.

I can't take the chance because I have elderly parents, a mother in law still weak from a heart attack and do not think that my rights are being infringed upon because I have to follow these mandates. Welcome to society.

You like it or you don't, you're stuck with it. You can freely move to the land of the free where you can do what you will, how you will, and bang on any drum you want. But it's a choice you make.

If there's anything that COVID has taught us, is that people are selfish cunts that will fight tooth and nail for some semblance of 'freedom'. Even though they spew the same rubbish over and over again to their own detriment.

If following the rules and actually trying to do my part makes me a sheep.....BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.

On another note, New Zealand forces you to pay $3000 for the quarantine at the hotel. You can file for a rebate / refund depending on circumstance. My buddy files as death or a close relative falls under that category. He's waiting for the decision on his refund request.

EDIT: You mention there's no flu this year...funny how people taking care of washing their hands, keeping their distance, and not gathering can have that effect on a very preventable disease...

My daughter just left for her first vax dose. She gets Pfizer dose 1 today at MARS.

On another front, a close family member in the Barrie area got her vax yesterday. She’s a data entry clerk in a hospital - not on any front line, not high risk. Its the first ‘who you know’ example I have seen.

Stats say more males die from it, that might **** off a lot of males ?

@mimico_polak ... just read everything he says in an uncle fester voice and it totally works

Was watching a video yesterday, they were making all the competitors push their motorcycle wheels through a trough of disinfectant
? seems reasonably, I think it was in one of those island countries that has experienced an epidemic.

Some hospitals opened up spots for all employees (including contract employees). No priority spots were provided based on your role.

FWIW my wife got stabbed Sunday. No major side effects as expected. Slightly sore arm getting worse for about 24 hours and then better. She said it was less of a reaction for her than a flu shot.

1:50 infection rate in the UK right now. More lockdowns announced. They are very very worried about hospitals coping. 500 deaths a day and increasing.

Los Angeles is rationing oxygen as it’s in short supply.
