Not a huge user, but have on occasion, mainly during vacations. I like the fact that good Uber drivers get more work and the crappy ones get shut out eventually - such is the way of how rating systems work, so there's incentives to actually not be an *******.

Meanwhile, taxi drivers can be just universally terrible forever without any repercussion.

I also like the technology aspect - being able to see where the driver is in relation to yourself in real time, what kind of car he's driving, and paying all electronically. The taxi industry has basically dragged their feet on technology in comparison.

Agreed that the taxi industry has gone backwards while everything else has gone forward.

Second nope!
Why do I need them when I have a car, and better yet a motorcycle.
Haven't taken public tranist in years.
I’ve used Uber in other countries. Very handy when you don’t know what a real cab looks like from the scammers!

Yeah good point.
Locally I never use public transit, and never uber.
Abroad, yea I will use public transit, and just ask for a taxi at the hotel or airport. Still haven't uber though.

Last 4 times I've used Uber:

1- Dropped my daughters car off at a shop for some repairs and needed to get to work at 7AM.

2- Getting off our cruise ship in Baltimore and didn't want to wait for the park-and-cruise shuttle to come get us vs just expediting on our own back to where the car was..and the Taxi service said they weren't sure when they could get us a car.

3- Wife locked her keys in the car. I sent her spares from my ring back home in an Uber. Didn't even set foot in it, but it was the easiest and cheapest solution.

4- Got off the VIA train in Montreal when we bought my wife's EV and needed to get from the station to the dealership. Anyone who's ever experienced a Montreal cabbie knows why I avoid cabs in Montreal like the plague, in line with the reasoning in my earlier response. ;)

#3 - fun fact; BMW Motorrad Roadside assistance will actually drop off your spare keys within 160kms (round trip) via cab. Not amazing but a pleasant surprise.

Unpleasant surprise, due to COVID the flat beds are not taking clients in their vehicle, you have to find another way home.

Whomp whomp.

Dropped my truck at Ford dealer last week, they shuttled me to office and back in an uber, they have parked thier shuttle.
Going to friends for dinner knowing it will be boozy, Uber
Want to get to a harbour to get on somebody elses boat for an overnight race and dont want to leave a car , uber
over served on a patio, uber
dropping bike a service shop and it will take more than a day, uber

Clean newer cars, almost always cleaner and in better shape than a cab, usually a friendly driver. That and I know the family that owns the local cab company (doosshhbags)

Reminds me of this one time a close colleague/friend and I were returning from Montreal to Toronto ~10 years ago.
Apparently the cabs have a standard rate fare when it comes to Airport trips, so my friend pad him exactly what was owed via Credit Card.
The Cab driver looks at the machine, looks at him and shouts in English (which was surprising because he only acknowledged us in French lol)

"WHAT? NO TIP!?"

Then proceeded to cancel that transaction and my friend had to 'voluntoldly' repay the amount with tip lmao.

I hate apple, setting at Conestoga mall right now waiting for the appointment time to pick up a phone

these twits think they’re gods

Gods honest truth this exact same thing happened to us during a road trip with friends 25 years ago. Ate dinner at an east side Mario’s with them and the service was deplorable. I mean, honestly, it was almost to the point we were ready to walk out when our (cold) food arrived The whole meal took over 2 hours and was dismal. Neither of us tipped.

The waiter actually ran out of the restaurant screaming that we didn’t tip - suddenly he spoke perfect English. I just kept walking. My friends got shamed into $5.

Toronto went over 1000 cases on its own today. Province at >2900. Is this the start of the christmas bump or just general growth from people not giving a flying *&^*&^?

EDIT:
From De Villa:
"She said while it's too early to say for sure whether Christmas gatherings played a role in the rising number of infections, data collected in the days leading up to the holiday between Dec. 14-20 indicate that about one in five people who caught the virus had gathered in a private home with people who weren't members of their household. And that number could be a low estimate."

More than 20% of the infected are completely ignoring lockdown restrictions. I don't normally like to kick people while they are down, but a $10,000 OHIP deductible seems reasonable in this case. Your life insurance can cover it if you don't make it.

On a more positive note.Had the grandkids over this morning for a socially distanced visit in the garage.Warm fuzzy feelings and a few boot scuffs on the bikes.Lol.
