Trump won't rest until they are #1, the greatest.
Not going to make it. Vaccines are rolling out in Nov. there. Have to have many, many more protests. I'm not sure that they'll beat the U.K.

One interesting factor, is that the virus lingers after being contracted and you recover enough, that you can later test positive, after dying of something else.

I wouldn't count on the USA not overtaking every other developed-world country on that list (except Belgium whose numbers are screwed up, and I'm not counting the two city-states).

At 1000 deaths per day (which has been the recent norm), that's 3 deaths per million residents every day, meanwhile the European countries have a lower rate of increase even with their second wave happening. Spain is just below 1 death per million residents per day. Spain as of right now is at 625 deaths per million residents, USA is at 577 (UK is at 611). At the current rates, USA overtakes the second-wave-happening Spain in 24 days (and the situation-under-control UK in 12 days) - before the end of September. The unfortunate people who are likely to make that happen, are mostly already infected, so a vaccine wouldn't stop this even if everyone were to be vaccinated today. And then the schools open ...

Even if the USA hastily approves a vaccine ... even setting aside the risks of doing so in a hasty manner and assuming they actually pull it off ... How many people will actually take it?? The "it's a hoax" people won't. The anti-vaxxers won't. The Trumptards won't. I'm not sure I'd take a hastily-approved vaccine until seeing how it worked out after a few months.

It's virtually certain that the earliest people to be vaccinated will be those at high risk. Health care workers, personal-service workers at care homes, etc.

The highest death rates are in the poor areas of the Democrat states. They will be very hard to beat. The name calling is inappropriate, and makes you look foolish. That's not saying that the Republicans are better. I don't know what else to say. Carry on.

Great! If there's a problem with the vaccine they wipe out the health care workers first. Oh well. They can do their duties between dialysis sessions or whatever comes up.

Woohoo. What if the vaccine does a thalidomide thing in the anti abortion crowd?

How long did it take to find out Thalidomide was a no-no? A year or more?? Nine months of pregnancy and then a bit of "WTF is happening" time followed by denial / CYA time and "You're going to need something stronger than beer".
IIRC the USA dragged approvals for the stuff and avoided the big hit.

We're going to need some new words, Trumpicide, Pooricide, Democraticide, Republicanicide.

Vacines are in phase 3 trials. If the efficacy is good, they'll end up giving those who are currently getting the placebo, the vaccine, as it would be unethical to withhold ìt. In the meantime Trudeau is sitting on his hands about Covid and vaccines. Trump is doing a better job.

Trudeau is blasting money all over the globe to pay multiple different companies for ~75 million doses each (Novovax and some other company as well). Whether we get any return on our spending is a very real question.

 you just don't get it do you, Trump is a mouth piece he doesn't do squat he has people to squat for him,
then just takes credit for it. Great people, envy of the World people. People so powerful you wouldn't believe people.

He taught them everything they know.

Your hamster will be safe!

my thalidomide example was just a warning about rushing unknowns....thalidomide was 60 years ago and we learned a lot since then.

Following on from one of my posts a little earlier on...more stupid prizes

Just in case people thought children are safe(from actual medical research):

I would still make sure you have a goodly supply of masks for back to school, and change them at least a couple of times a day.
Open the windows if you can. Get the kids outside as much as possible.
The latest news, is that masks aren't just for protecting other people.
Years ago the outdoor classroom was being promoted at my kid's school.
They have areas etched out in the yard with seating made from rock and tree trunks.
I hope they will finally get the use that they were intended to get.

Canada's COVID Alert app has been downloaded 2.2 million times, but only 110 people have voluntarily inputted a one-time key from health authorities to alert others of their positive COVID-19 test.

Didn't see that coming.

Is it possible that only 110 of confirmed cases downloaded the app?

Government needs to make sure that people know that the app is anonymous.

If someone thinks that their friends will find out that they gave it to them, they might not confirm that they have it.

maybe the next app will be for HPV or crabs?

Now THAT should be mandatory on everyone's phone lol stamp out STDs in a single generation, although i bet some people are thirsty enough to ignore it...

If I get it, I'll be pushing that button and getting a code. I wouldn't want that on my conscience.

@ifiddles are you getting your vitamin D?

Vaccines should not be compared to thalidomide, different beast.
