From Coronavirus Update (Live): 27,995,551 Cases and 906,910 Deaths from COVID-19 Virus Pandemic - Worldometer

sort the table by deaths per 1M population ...

USA has just pulled ahead of Italy.
Tied, you mean. What do you expect with all the people running around protesting and rioting?
It's weird that the death rate is still so high there, but has dropped off the charts in other countries.
Are New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Louisiana and Rhode Island still leading the pack, with over 1 dead per thousand population?

"President Donald Trump knew Covid-19 was deadlier than the flu before it hit the US but wanted to play down the crisis, according to a new book.

Bob Woodward, the journalist who broke the Watergate scandal, interviewed Mr Trump 18 times from December to July.

Mr Trump told him the virus was "deadly stuff" before the first US death was confirmed, later adding he wanted to "play it down" to avoid causing panic."

I heard the tape and was astonished that Trump could make coherent intelligent statements. Two days later he was all about "It'll go away by magic."

Quite damning for Trump.

However, Woodward had these tapes in February. But only released the contents now, seven months later? Right before the election?

Is that responsible journalism? When he and Bernstein covered the Watergate scandal, did they hold on to important information or publish it immediately?

I get the point but how does one handle it when the other side constantly cheats?

When there's money to be made conscience means little.

Comey right before the election? Sounds like 1-1

The USA is ahead if you do the calculation yourself to more significant digits (which is why it's listed as ahead in the sorted table, even though it's only displayed to a rounded integer value). It'll be ahead without a doubt tomorrow. And indeed, not a surprise given the combination of protesting, rioting, Sturgis, and general ignorance.

Indeed they are, in that exact order, and all with more than 1 dead per thousand. NJ and NY are near 1.7 - 1.8 per thousand. The number of daily deaths has tailed off in all of those states except Louisiana, which is still in trouble. But even at that ... NJ. NY, MA, CT together are roughly the population of Canada. Yesterday those states together had 1,234 new cases and 21 deaths. Canada had 546 new cases and 2 deaths.

Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina together are also roughly the population of Canada. Yesterday those states together had 4298 new cases and 290 deaths.

There are still 17 states which have had fewer deaths per million population than Canada's average (242). Coincidentally, those states all together also have roughly the population of Canada (in other words, 90% of the USA is worse off than we are, and mostly by a lot). BUT ... Those states together had (rough math in my head) about 5000 new cases and 109 deaths yesterday. Canada hasn't had a day like that since more than three months ago in terms of deaths, and we never had any day with as many new daily cases.

Why? Because the Americans aren't doing what they should be doing. Because Sturgis. Because freedumbs.

Cute you zero in on them.
Everyone seems to focus on Sturgis and Spring Break and ignore the protests, New Jersey, New York etc. Why can't I be different?

I still suspect the effect of the protests is small compared to the effect of a significant percentage of the US population just going about their daily activities as if nothing is happening - eating in restaurants, going to the cinema, not wearing masks, etc.

Sturgis is interesting to look at because it's not localized. 99% of those people are from out of state, where they go back to afterwards possibly carrying Corona, then spreading it to their family/friends/neighbours that never went to Sturgis.

Protests involve largely local people (excluding the obvious planes full of Antifa roaming around) that stay local.

what about one in a Sturgis-like bar ......protesters didn’t seem to congregate in bars either by the way
The problem with that is sometimes time.
You may have a picture from months or years ago, that would look bad now.
How do you tell the difference?

Anyways, I'm currently of the equally stupid opinion.
It's not just one group political or otherwise that are running around without masks in the U.S., although some news sources, try and persuade you differently.

US has lost 7764 to covid in the last 10 days, Canada lost 38 in the same time frame. That is very sad.
:unsure: but wait they have more people, gotta take that into consideration;
?? 36,983,180 / 38 = 973241 our odds of being terminated by covid this month are approaching a million to one.
?? 336,031,546 / 7764 = odds are ~43,280 to 1

I like our survival odds much better in the here and now ? keep fighting the good fight Canada.

Agreed. The 10:1 population ratio isn't even close to working, not that it paints the whole truth.

And keep the germ spitters out indefinitely. We can ship the sickies back but our health care finances don't need the burden of a higher rate of infection picked up from people that are above the rules.

That might depend on the news source. It's easy to focus a camera on a particular area.

Anyways, here's some that are neither bikers, nor protesters.
LIVE NOW! Times Square Cams - EarthCam

I watched a video of the Brazilian president doing the independence day celebration thing and it showed the band playing and him shaking hands with the crowds etc. Then the camera zoomed back and there were more people in his entourage and band than in the crowd.

He should have borrowed some cardboard cut outs from the sports teams.

No need to worry about those numbers, those people are all dead now :|
and if statistics mean anything, the average US citizen is 22 times more likely then the average Canadian to join them.
