Except, as I understand it, JT didnt mandate the company top up. The company can keep them on the books at 8xx a month and throw nothing in the pot. If cerb is insufficient, cerb should be fixed. Your ability to be solvent shouldnt be based on whether the govt cash flowed through the company or not (unless the company was required to throw in substantial money, which they arent).

Gotcha, I was always under the impression that the company had to pay the other 25% to participate.

And risk losing part of their workforce in the meantime.

Losing to whom? Uber eats? Your skilled staff wants to become psw's? There is not a huge demand for skilled employees right now. Yes, there could be an opening for a well-funded competitor to do some poaching, but that exists even with this program. 100K beats 58xxx anyday.

Well most of the help to businesses is the 75% wage kickback. Most of that should be distributed to non-owners. It would be nice if there were some easily visible restrictions on the 40k interest free loan (eg. Owner needs to sign a personal guarantee). I could see those being used as consolation prizes/startup money for the next business if that isnt in there.

If I still had my company could I have taken the $40K, paid myself most of it and then gone under? My concern is that a number of companies that were on the edge will take the money and fold.

That's not what I'm seeing on Indeed. There's a drop, yes, but there is still a demand.

Talk about bad motherfuckers:

They don't build 'em like that anymore. The manbun crowd are upset they can't get their Starbucks and the millennials are still grumpy they now *have* to sit in their parents basement and play video games 24/7 now....not because that's what they did beforehand anyways, but now...because the government says they have to.

It’s funny but I remember WAY back when at church one day. The priest said the most popular time for the Catholic Church was when communism was the rule in Poland, and the government banned church mass. Everyone was scrambling to go. Now when they’re free, no one cares.

I like to 40K loan. It's more than a loan to a small biz, it's economic fuel. I'd say virtually all businesses suffer somehow -- tossing them a few bucks is juice for the economy. It's not likely pocket money, most little guys will use this to fund re-starts. The $10K gift oughta come back in income tax in created jobs directly and indirectly.

Remember that small business is the economy's engine -- fueling them is sound strategy.

From what I understand the owners are personally responsible for the loan. Pocket the money and go under puts you on the bankruptcy bus -- that hurts for a very long time.

Have heard similar stories about russia from my friends

a reminder from 2014 what leadership looks like

The difference is that they are united States, so the individual states are supposed to deal with much of this, and the Feds who managed to let the supplies expire are supposed to be the backup.

b.t.w. What's our excuse?
The Feds have been slow to do much of anything, with the exception of the Prime Minister's wife.
Everyone else who shows some symptoms, but doesn't recall meeting with someone proven positive, is told to isolate themselves.
You'd think we'd be getting on top of the situation a little faster.
It seems that one of the bills rushed through, is going through a do-over, because the government didn't understand it, and explained it wrong.
I also heard that we followed the Americans on the search for a test, and used data from the CDC instead of WHO, which cost some time.
Finally, what's with the Canadian made quick test being used in Europe, but not here?

From what I've seen, the stories circulating about Trump could be written about Trudeau, or any other federal leader, given enough bias on the writer's part; all of them were working from square one, none of them has been perfect through the ordeal.

So my sister-in-law to be has her hands on a bunch of n95 in China she's ready to mail to us (she teaches in Shanghai), however China customs is apparently screening for these and flagging them as 'do not ship'. Anyone heard about this or know of a loophole? Apparently it's also flagged due to the cost (over $400 value i think).

Plan to contact my companies logistics company tomorrow to talk shop with them and see if the know of a way.

How about just using articulated buses and not allowing anyone on the front part? Hard partition.

It would take a change in the HTA but horse trailers with the driver isolated in the cab and the animals in the trailer. The horse trailer is a a bit of a stretch but if C-19 positive people had to be transported a Boler RV would likely be less harmful in the long run. Since the trailer would be automatically C-19+ you don't even have to disinfect it as the next user is C-19+ as well.

We do not have any articulated buses at our transit property; all 40 ft buses. Sadly, we do not have any plexiglass barriers either.

I have started to put the accesibility seatbelts across the stantion bars which helps remind people not to cross the newly moved back yellow line. I was starting to get a bit hoarse yelling at people to get back. I rarely ever raise my voice. With the belt across there the "vulnerable" passengers seemed to clue in finally and were going out the back door.

Othee transit properties have put up a plastic vapor barrier or vinyl strapa to mark the space. The big problem are not the people using the service for essential needa like going to work or to get groceries.

Good call on your part. My dad works for the TTC and I keep telling him to stop working...you can retire and you're still fine. Why put yourself at risk?

But his response is always the same. We take precautions, I'll be fine. So it worries the **** out of me. And loves his overtime.
It is a balance. Oddly enough one of my former coworkers just passed away. He got 7 years of retirement.

There was a guy who we nicknamed "Scoop". It was because he grabbed every ounce of overtime and giveaway shifts to up his pension. He made it 18 months post retirement before he passed away.

Earn what you need to pay your bills and be happy. See if you can budget with your regular income and not "need" the overtime to pay for a lifestyle you cannot afford on your regular salary.

I agree. And we argue over it every few months. But in his mind, their retirement pension is based off the best 5 years apparently so he's trying to average up that value...which makes sense...if you live long enough to enjoy it. But then my mother gets 50% of that if he passes, so he's trying to set her up.

Of course there's also the other suggestion that he can't stand to be in the house for more than a few hours at a time and work is what he knows and loves. As do many of my friends' parents from that generation. Work work work! Not me...gonna check my 70M ticket this morning.

An electrical contractor I knew had an electrician that never worked Mondays or Fridays. When asked why he said he couldn't live on two days pay.

Does your company owe you 40k, or are you wanting to take that as personal income and pay all of the taxes and deductions against it?
You can't just take money out of an incorporated company without the bookkeeping to support it.
