Agreed. Sadly there were joyriders on my bus earlier in my shift who were laughing and talking about how overblown this is.

Last night a group of about 30 kids showed up out of nowhere as a group and were running around and yelling. Just being normal kids but these are not normal times.

I am worried that since the "surge" has not really arrived here yet that people are going to stop taking this seriously and start to not practive social distancing.

For me I said no to overtime tomorrow. Outside of my backyard (weather permitting) I am going nowhere. Stay home? Gladly for this guy.

Good call on your part. My dad works for the TTC and I keep telling him to stop working...you can retire and you're still fine. Why put yourself at risk?

But his response is always the same. We take precautions, I'll be fine. So it worries the **** out of me. And loves his overtime.

They just asked the governor of new york if the virus has peaked :/ come on gov, you are an elected official, you must know what will happen in the future!

I'll never understand the "live to work" instead of "work to live" mentality. Personally I work the minimum number of hours a week I'm obligated to work, and meet our financial needs.

Personally, I was glad I was able to take a voluntary layoff at work through all this. A junior man who needs the money and benefits more than me can keep working now as a result, and personally, we will do just fine with the financial supports in place in the meantime.

Hope your dad remains healthy. I can certainly understand your concern. Both of my parents are long gone but when my father was in a nursing home he was very frail towards the end - he would never have survived it. My wife's grandmother is in a home however but is moderately healthy and fairly wiley (and the home is still case free) so we have our fingers crossed there. Up until a year back she was actually living at Pinecrest in Bobcaygeon where that major outbreak has devastated the place - every single resident she lived with at that time except 1 (her old room mate) are gone.

He likely feels he is putting extra money away for times of disaster :| like
now.

Cool idea. Sampling wastewater to get both an idea of how many people are infected and where hotspots are.

That would be a great way of detecting changes in infection among populations. Set up automatic sampling at wastewater treatment plants and you’ll have an accurate day to day measure of what’s happening to the population in the catchment area.

How about just using articulated buses and not allowing anyone on the front part? Hard partition.

It would take a change in the HTA but horse trailers with the driver isolated in the cab and the animals in the trailer. The horse trailer is a a bit of a stretch but if C-19 positive people had to be transported a Boler RV would likely be less harmful in the long run. Since the trailer would be automatically C-19+ you don't even have to disinfect it as the next user is C-19+ as well.

:( probably the first in canada, but wont be the last. Scary.

True moral dilemma....I think those that stayed are pretty amazing people but those that left made a difficult decision. Maybe this is where the military step in assuming there’s enough military medical staff to do so.

Training is the hard part. How many psw's are properly trained for dealing with a virus that potentially threatens their own life?

Probably not many and not properly.
Keeping in mind that all of this is new to EVERYONE and not many people or business are prepared to provide such training etc. Mind you some are making decisions as they go. The resources may not be there to provide such training. And I don't mean financially, just not able to facilitate such training on a short notice.

Every jobs has risks and if you are not OK with those risks than its time to look for another (safer) job. Leaving that position open and available for another person to fill it.

Everyone is entitle to have a safe working environment, but I think there are proper ways of handling such situations. Simply walking off is not a solution.

Problem is once a person is trained, they realize how fallible the PPE equipment they have been given really is. Plus training has never included reusing anything, it was always dispose of it in an approved biohazard waste receptacle :| and how many of those have you seen lately ?
