Copy of the M Test (M2X) checklist!

How far in advance do you have to book your test for your full "M" ? My M2 expires in June...

Thanks

I called two weeks ago and booked the first available date at the Aurora location which was June 3rd. I suggest you book the test as soon as possible.

FYI, as stated on the www.mto.gov.on.ca website:
What happens if the holder of a new class licence can't get a road test before their licence expires?

New drivers are advised to book their road test early before their licence expires The road test appointment must be booked before the licence expires . If a road test is not available before the licence expires, a temporary driver's licence will be issued to the date of the road test.
Once the licence expires, the driver must reapply for the Level 1 licence.

Hope this helps!
Joe

I think it depends on where you are. For myself I plan on taking the course and getting my M through them, registering for the course early enough to ensure a seat is the only concern. You need to book now for your test to ensure that you can do it before your due date is up, you don't want to have to start all over and also leave enough time just in case you didn't make it the first time around.

thanks JoeRider for the answer

Edit:
I just booked my test at the Downsview location and the date they offered was 15 days from now... So I guess it depends on the location.

As I didn't get much riding in last year I wanted to book a little later in the year. Mine expires Aug. 29 so I figured sometime in July would give me some "brush up my skills time." I tried to book online but not go as its too far into the future. I took a trip down to Kenora(Hamilton) to see if I could book. The surly ***** on the counter was not polite or helpful and said I could book the next available (mid April) or nothing. I wasn't impressed.

I can see this road test being a fiasco and I suspect a lot of guys ( myself included) will not pass on the first go around. Why you ask? Private ownership of the testing facility. They are not run by the MTO staff now but private money making contractors.

I hope I'm wrong but I suspect not.

I'd like to hear from anyone especially guys in Hamilton who take the test out of Kenora this season.

Good luck to all,
Spyug.

yep.. there's NO reason to upgrade to the full "M" unless you want to drink and drive...
don't drink anyway, not a biggie of a deal,,,,,

second reason... better rates on insurance and more choices, my regular insurance company for my car wouldn't insure me until I had my full M license.

Edit:

good luck on your test.

What is the strategy in slow moving traffic? Let's say I have to stop every 20yards. Should i drag the leg(s) or always keep them up? How about really slow traffic, when you should walk the bike? It's possible 100% on Downsview during rush hours.

I was taught to never drag the feet, in the spring refresher course we focused on slow speed maneuvers, we had a slow race, last to finish won the race.... without putting our feet down once.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the PDF it really helps...nice to have unknown friends around!!!

Cheers!!

just booked my test. the mto website is horrible. keeps stalling at the processing page. worst part is that there is absolutely no number to call for technical help !! ended up booking through their annoying automated telephone line. :-x

the pdf will come in to good use soon enough.

Ok guys, bare with me here. I have been riding bikes for 10 years and I think this is going to hurt me when it comes time to do my M2 exit course (one week). First off, my bike does NOT even have 4 way flashers (new r1). Second, I am doing this in OSHAWA so if anyone on here has any experience in this location, PLEASE speak up. Here are a list of things I am unsure about??
~What exactly is a "blocking position", and please explain where I should be with my bike on the Highway AND in town?
~what is the "MTO" way to position my bike when I am making a turn? do I stay on the left side of lane, or the right?

Please give me as much advise as you can here guys. I have been riding a long time and I think (know), I've picked up ALOT of bad habits. I do not want to fail this and have to start all over. Although I DO have ALOT of experience on a bike, I think this will hurt me more than help me. This whole "blocking position" is new to me. I just ride my bike on the left "tire mark" in the lane. Is this right? It certainly seems to be the safest spot.

PLEASE HELP HERE GUYS

Your brake light is the signal that they'll be looking for, in order to verify that you're properly using your brakes. In this condition your bike wouldn't pass a safety, so I'd recommend fixing that before proceeding.

apparently my begging for help was not heard or cared about??? LOL. Common guys, I help strangers out on here ANYTIME I can. Care to show a little love for me too????

You said you ride in the left "tire mark" in the lane... if you are on a two lane road and are riding in the right land the blocking position would be in the left tire track if you are in the left lane the blocking position would be in the right tire track. Pretty much being in the tire track that is closest to the lane beside you to block traffic from coming into your lane. On the highway you should be in the far left land cause then you can block traffic on your right side. In the middle lane you have jackass' on both sides of you, and in the right lane you can block but then you have to worry about off and on ramps with cars coming and going. On the test when you go on the highway you will be in the right lane and be asked to change lanes then change back and get off, so you wont even have a chance to get into the left lane.

I hope it isn't too late. I took the test in Oshwa about a week ago and passed. I was too relaxed after all this information and got 4 big points for "blind spot check" and another 4 points for "left-right-left check".

ATTS answered the "blocking position" well enough. If I may add, on the highway, when you change to the middle lane, just go across the while dotted line and back. From the left tire track of right-most lane to the right tire track of the middle lane and back. On turns, it is like from the blocking position before you turn to the blocking position of the road your turn into. Left to left on right turn, left (1-lane) or right (multi-lane) to left (1-lane) or right (multi-lane) on left turn.

My bike does not have 4-way flasher either. The tester asked me where the bike has it or not before the test started. I left the right blinker on then turned off the engine with the key that turned off even the blinker. I didn't get any point for that.

As others said, all this may depend on the tester. Good luck, Jin

ok, thanks for the help guys. One more question. I a'm still not entirely sure what "blocking position" means. If I am riding down a street (2 lanes, 1 in each direction), and they tell me to make a left hand turn at the lights. Am I expected to ride in the LEFT tire mark on the road until I get to the light, and then when I turn onto the next street, I am expected to stay in this LEFT tire mark? I would only go to the RIGHT tire mark on this next street IF it had 2 lanes for me to ride in? I just REALLY dont want to fail this test and have to start over.

if there is one lane in each direction and you are turning left onto a one lane in each direction road then you go from the left tire track to the left tire track. if you turn left from a multiple lane road then you go from the right tire track to the right tire track. if you turn right you always go left tire track to left tire track whether it's one lane or two lanes.

I know what you mean - I'm preparing and feeling nervous, but have read so much here I hope I don't get too relaxed either! I'm going to check the MC handbook, but wanted to confirm, is a mirrors check considered to be left right then left again, or is left-right enough? There's nothing on the checklist implying the extra left is needed. For blind spot, I assume you have to check the mirror and then turn your head over your shoulder when changing lane, turning, merging etc., but not when you do normal mirror checks. Correct?
Many thanks, and congrats on your license!

The left-right-left check is checking the traffic from left and right, not from behind. It is expected before turning or before proceeding after stop on intersection. In the check list, there are two "left-right-left" check boxes. And I thought I do check left and right a couple of times each instinctively, but guess not...

For the blind spot check, I don't know enough to spell out what exactly is expected.
