when your tires look shredded like that you don't have to worry about the little dick or vagina syndrome...
besides I'd rather have proper sports tires than worry about having to explain to a doofus something he won't comprehend anyways...
 
What grit sandpaper is best to use on my tires to get rid of chicken strips? Orbital sander or can I just use a Black and Decker Mouse? What about wire brush vs steel wool? I feel so inadequate I'm thinking of getting my tires sandblasted, anywhere local to get this done?

The profile of the tire is a factor too. I got the BT-16 rear down to the edge on my MONSTER in like the first week! But the Pirelli Corsa 3's I've been running on the Daytona? Forgitabout it! Still got a few mm left.

The profile does make a huge difference.

What SS bike you speak of?! 10cm on each side = 20 cm or 200mm, most SS bikes run 180-190mm rear tire, If the bikes you saw had 200mm of chicken strip they must be flying or using car tires

My 190/50 has 22.5cm of measured tread area (after quite a bit of wear), the arc of the tread is greater than the width. 20 cm of chicken strip would be virtually impossible. 2.5 cm of tread would be scuffed just walking the bike around upright.

Just measured the arc of mine (190/50 BT-016pro)---24 cm, I have about 3,000km on them (done in about a month [insert evil smile here]).

I don't have one handy here, but 55's should measure even more.

I'm so awesome I'm wearing out the sidewall lettering, it's all balling up from my 90 degree lean angles.
