Cars and Excessive Rolling Stops

Yeah I love the right on red when I have an advance green to turn left or there is still traffic flowing through the intersection and people just go without a care. Everyone will stop and avoid them, right? So many idiots on our roads.

Well I am always concerned if I come to a complete stop on a right on red, will I get rear ended by the guy behind me? If I am alone I try to always stop.

Not much of a complainer we all try need to try our best to share the road rolling stops have their place in my opinion, but if you see someone make one probably not the right place. Lol

So irritating and suburban drivers are the worst at rolling thru the right on red. I always stop, car or bike, and if someone hits me in my car from behind because of it, well-- it won't be hard, and hopefully I'll get some of that rust on the back end of my car fixed with their insurance money!

throw in a couple paid weeks off work because of mild whiplash too, and it's almost worth it.

I was in a friend's car, she's a lot younger than me. When she came to turning right at a red light intersection, she didn't stop or even pause. I asked her why she didn't stop before turning? She believed stopping before a red light right turn wasn't legally necessary. I told her to look it up.

Wow. Pretty hard to misunderstand what a red light means. The no stop / barely slow down at a red when making a right turn seems way more common now than in my previous years of driving.

If i'm in my cage I always come to a complete stop at stop signs and red lights behind the white line and then proceed. Almost always, this catches drivers behind me off guard who're anticipating me to roll through.

If i'm on my bike, I put one foot down then continue.

It's not an easy situation, in EU they have roundabouts and traffic circles instead of all-way stop signs. I think we should be fortunate, we're allowed to turn right on red; most places, you're not even allowed to do that.

For me I always take advantage of a driver ahead of me stopping past the white line. Although it appears we're both coming to a stop at the same time. As long as I come to a stop behind the white line, I've fulfilled my legal requirement and will continue through; i'm not going to make another stop behind an imaginary line just because the other driver failed to stop in the proper place.

Same goes for all-way stop signs, if both of us are approaching the stop signs. If I make the stop first behind the white line, while the other guy stops past the white line... I stopped first, I'm going to exercise right-of-way.

Full stop for me at all of them. Exception is on the bike, if there is no other traffic, I will slow to just before I need to put a foot down and then go. If there is other traffic it's full stop again.

Meh, I stop at ALL stop signs and red lights. Good to stay in practice because if I go back to Aus with the bad habbits drivers here have Id lose my license in less then a week. In Aus the stop sign means STOP (dead still) for at least 3 seconds, and cops actually book you the moment they see you take off before the 3 seconds is up. On a motorbike you have to actually stop and put a foot on the ground before taking off again.

thats *if* you find a stop sign! I was in Brisbane driving for 2 weeks and only came across 2 stop sights. Most are "Give Way" (Yield) or Roundabouts.. .

Every time I stop to turn right in Toronto some guy a different color than me just pulls out on my left and goes around me. I've started stopping halfway out and in both lanes.

around me, cops are ticketing all rolling stops.
But, we are building roundabouts on all new roads, and even after all the old guy venting in the shopper's news editorials, we are learning what the rest of the world figured out 50 years ago.

I have not seen a single vehicle indicate correctly while using a roundabout in Canada. Unless ofcoarse the laws here are different to the rest of the world.

Many people in front of my son's school roll the stop. smh
Seen many people cut left on a roundabout rather than go around.
Many times I have come to a complete stop at a 4 way, and the other driver rolls through.
I was guilty of turning right while opposite had advance green. Has been corrected.

I signal right before exiting the roundabout (and I see the occasional other vehicle also doing that), which in my mind makes sense because it lets people about to enter the roundabout past where my exit is, know that they don't need to wait for me.

But signalling left before entering the roundabout ... doesn't make sense. It's not like I have a choice in the matter at that point. It doesn't help drivers in the roundabout - they have the right of way regardless of me signalling, and they're facing the left side of my car so they can't see either my front or rear signals anyhow. In what way does signalling left before entering the roundabout help anyone whatsoever??

I generally signal when I exit. If its a big roundabout like up near Collingwood and I wasnt going through, I will signal while I'm in the inside lane left, showing I'm *staying* in the roundabout rather than going straight through

That's because the roundabouts are too small. The bulbs barely have time to light up.

You onlu signal left as you enter the roundabout if your going to take the third exit (left turn) or 4th exit (uturn). You signal right any time your about to exit the roundabout, wether your going right straight left or doing a u turn.
