Car talk

my buddy just bought a small compact car because his F150 was costing him $150 every 3 days to travel to work and back....for $300/week...he'd rather just buy a cheapo commuter and keep the F150 to tow the toys up to the cottage.

This is also a guy that has everything paid off (house, cottage, boats, cars, etc.) so he's not wasteful with his money.
This will be me soon….half ton truck is in my near future for cottage duties/toys/dd. Leaning towards the f150 power-boost with the 3.5L hybrid system.

Just going to close my eyes when I fill the tank.

Ignorance is bliss as they say...why not just use the X5 to tow?

Or just throw a hitch to your super powerful motorcycle...I'm sure that thing's got some good pull.

Yup. That's what I did. The pickup is in the driveway with CAA pay-as-you-go insurance, which costs me $90/1000km to a max of $780 /year. The econo car costs $300/mo to finance and drinks 50l of fuel a week... vs 140l/week for the pickup truck.

Utility.

Truck hauls more and fits more. Now that I have to maintain a cottage with boat(s) and relatively dated (rustic) furniture and appliances, forward thinking suggests I’ll need to be lugging tools and equipment up there. More often if I eventually Airbnb it.

Truck also provides option for track bikes and road trips! 😬

you guys ready for a laugh?!...I last filled up on November 30, 2021...put in $53...was finally down to one bar about a week ago so hubby used the gas in our jerry cans to fill her up (I was too lazy to go to the gas station)...what's my fuel mileage I wonder??? LMAO :D

Yes!

We made the same move: X5 -> Pick up. Lots more versatility! This was our old setup:

Probably going to be spending a lot more time this summer living out of our truck, like this:

I can actually beat that. Last filled up my SUV mid-November and it’s still at 7/8th of a tank. Vehicle 2 (van, kid hauler) has been filled up once since then as well.
Sleds have eaten hundreds of $ of fuel since then though. Wife needed nacho supplies last week so I took the sled from the yard, across the lake, to the grocery store to get supplies :)

Not gonna lie...tha's pretty awesome.

I could...but I don't have a water body nearby...unless you consider getting to the Credit River nearby lol

One of the neighbours has 3 ATVs in his garage...kids have dirt bikes...and he's got a monster RV in his front yard.

This is the coolest one...

Would be awesome if those things were road legal! I would absolutely commute in that!

They show up on your red insurance slip and have a plate. One stroke of the pen and Douggie could make it happen. I'm not sure how the feds would feel about a province allowing vehicles on the road that didn't comply with CMVSA. They already let them on the shoulders of many roads so it wouldn't be a big step.

My commute is mainly through back-country farm area, it’s just the last 1% of my drive that goes through town - so I’d probably be fine except for the in town part…..
