Canada post rant

You have been lucky. All the ones I have encounter haven't been. Shoot the staffing supervisor I worked with for a while had no experience, nothing, and was advising LC on things he didn't even know. Like he F' up the colour of the week all the time. Ridiculous.

There use to be an option in the PDT where you can op out of stuff using "COVID" as the reason, this was clearly being abused by several people. I was told several times just put that in. As for signatures isn't it possible the LC could sign it themselves? This is a person with low ethics already.
I’ve had lousy supervisors too - don’t get me wrong…. Just is that Duncan is awesome.

As for the Covid thing - during the pandemic years, anything requiring a signature was automatically carded. Anything that said “Do Not Safe Drop” was allowed to be safe dropped.

There are still options on the new PDT’s (they replaced the old ones about 1.5 years ago) to edit delivery options. As a carrier, I cannot change the Signature option - it’s greyed out.

As for. Signing themselves, yes, the LC could do it, but, if caught, that’s an automatic dismissal (firing) for fraud.

One problem I’ve seen with signing on those PDTs is the signature rarely looks like mine. The pen and sign box are useless so I scribble something.

This worries me that it could be seen as a signature by @Scuba Steve and not accepted as fraud by the LC…just a bad signature box.

We had a young kid doing the routes for a year or more in the area. Loved the guy, always happy and always had a quick chat (one lasting 20min).

He’s been replaced by a string of useless twats.

This is quite common with LC's. They will strategically not deliver items properly or return mail back to the depot and let someone else deal with it, in order to finish the route and GTFO. Then a temp is called in the next day to pick up the missed route items. Rinse and repeat and you start to understand why things work at CP the way they do.
Once a LC has put enough time in they become almost untouchable and can get away with crap like this.
^This was the case with the superbox at our last house. In the first few years we lived there, we never had a package delivered into the box. It was an older unit with limited parcel boxes and 41 units in our townhouse development, so the carrier probably knew how many parcels could be delivered and only took that many with them. They pre-filled in the cards saying delivery was attempted and stuffed the card into our slot. The thing is we could see the mail truck come onto the property because they literally drove right past our front window to get to the mailbox and they never knocked on the door to try and deliver a package. We would then have to wait until later in the day and go and pick-up the parcel at one of the postal outlets in town.

Since we have moved this problem has been eliminated. Not sure if we have a better carrier, or the newer boxes have more parcel boxes.

As per Scuba Steve, Canada Post is saying the LC delivered with no signature. On registered mail that's a no no.

If I recall certain parcels do not have to be attempted to deliver at door if the community mailbox is full. We card it and leave you a notice.

Parcels are 'allowed' to stay in the box for i believe up to 5 days, then they get removed and carded. You can remove packages that have been there for 2 days to make room for newer ones as well.

Some areas are not cleared for safe drop and we can't be leaving them on your porch, side door or w/e.

But it can be as others have said, many people play fast and loose with the rules to clock out ASAP.

@BigEvilDoer we should start an AMA Letter Carrier thread (Ask Me Anything)

Update
As I had suspected no one cares. The advice is to sign for it and have the sender open a investigation. But nothing we can do sucks to be you, not our problem.

Sounds like a bait trap, sign for it, investigate, "why did you sign for it" "100% your problem".

I would fight this tooth and nail and even make the time to go in person...simply because I'm an *** and this is unacceptable.

I would also have a chat with the letter carrier and bluff that cameras saw them do it.

But I can be a d$@k when people eff around with such things.

I have sent some emails to higher up at CP and my MP see if that gets traction

You spoke to a staffing supervisor or something i assume? Could try escalating to the Superintendent..they run the show at the depots.

Supervisor was the thief? CP employees in here seem to think there was a hard line and the LC would have the hammer drop. If the supe grabbed it before the LC ever saw it, maybe that explains the wall of silence. Can a supervisor mark off things as delivered? Should be easy enough for someone in CP to see who marked the package as out for delivery.

LC do it with their PDT when they're sorting the mail back at the depot.

Also your PDT would show items remaining at the end of the day when you logout, a smart LC would report this or find the package..because there's a high chance you get sent back out there to find it. That's what normally happens when someone reports their mail that's been 'delivered' is MIA.

I feel for you @Scuba Steve I have another post that is similar to this one and funny enough it involves Canada Post as well.
But not for delivery issues, just how impossible it is to deal with big business effectively. We all get the "you should do this or that" posts but none of us fully realize just how much time it takes to resolve the smallest of issues. This is what big businesses count on, that soon the amount of time you have to invest will over shadow the amount you lost to begin with.

Lol there are no answered phones at the depot ever, and going there is not in my time budget. I brought it up with customer service where they answered the phone. Basically not much they can do they may call if they are able to get a postal inspector to look into it.

Yes we always ship with anyone but Canada post as the time cost is more than the shipping cost. Everyone else will pick up packages and deal with things the same day.

Tracking doesn't show any delivery just out for delivery in early January then a month later out for delivery again it is the carrier claiming he delivered it then found it again a month later in my post box but missing the contents.
System is so set up against the customer that the plan on you giving up. The whole only the sender can do anything schtick gets old and tiring.

I guess a slightly less crooked way to end at this point was carrier maybe put it in the wrong box and one of your neighbours burgled you. LC went back through the boxes and found it. Seems unlikely though. Neighbour probably wouldn't have left envelope in their box after stealing from it and LC should have marked it delivered (stuck to another piece of mail and they didn't see it go in?).
