Nope. 4.5 years means diddly squat.
If they cut even 1/4 of posties I have no idea how on earth routes will be delivered. Last week I had a day with 44,000 steps taken. If you expect me to add another 11,000 steps in a day to make up for the 1/3 cut in staff, that’s a ludicrous proposal.
Another reason for the nuclear option. If Canada Post dies and CP2 is born, CP2 is free to hire the best employees for the job instead of being restricted to those most protected by the union.

And if I get rehired after PP decides to sell and make it private sector (if PP wins of course), I will go back at a significantly decreased wage and most benefits cut.
It’s a VERY physically demanding job, and a large percentage of retiring posties need hip replacements, walk with canes etc.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is rampant, and so is tennis elbow amongst posties in the 7+ year mark.
We absolutely need those benefits to remain intact regardless.
Sadly, you may be right. I wasn't using the reset to batter the employees that were hired, I was using it as a way to make the wholesale changes required to the operation and workforce in the least painful way. Imo, most of the staffing changes (reductions) required are management but it can also be used to cut the underperformers on the streets and replace them with people that want to be there.
What is the sweet spot for door-to-door delivery?
Raising rates brings in more money per item but reduces the number of items. Where do the lines cross?
I'm guessing the spot is low and to the left. The end is super boxes and special delivery at courier price levels.
The 748 million loss spread over 16.6 households is a loss of ~$45 per household per year. That has to be fudged to compensate for those already on super boxes but how many people would agree to pay an extra $2 a week for door service?
Re the body wear, what do construction laborers go as they age out? Slugging concrete and rubble at 65 YO doesn't seem like fun.

Super mail boxes would fix that.
Working with municipal govt to be sure superboxes can be installed to meet local requirements and getting them built a solution. The door to door is dead technology. Even in rural settings , I’ve lived where we went to the general store , which could just be a superbox now. My son gets his mail eight kilometres away , in Alberta .

In our neighbourhood we have dog walkers that take the family pooch for a stroll. Could a cottage industry be personal letter carriers?
A person sets themselves up to get other people mail daily and put it in the addressee's home mail slot. The charge is $XX a week or $X times the number of days per week the client wants their mail relayed to the home slot.
99.9% of the whiners will just use the superbox. They are butthurt at losing the convenience of delivery to the door but won't be willing to spend a penny to keep it. As with most wankers, they expect that others (few care who the other is as long as it's not them) should pay for their entitlement.
Try a trade, walking is the easy bit.
