It's called "Separate Sort and Delivery" (SSD). Most depots that have installed this system are crazy behind on mail delivery with many days of ail stacked up for large portions of their depot.Does that mean they will be working the full shifts.. or finishing their set work load and just sitting around the depot dong nothing til it's home time?
Postie arrives, mail has been pre-sorted. Still need to mark packets/parcels and sort them for proper delivery. Load your van. Away you go. Arrive at stop 1, get out, put on mail bags, load up, deliver a loop that comes back to the van. Load again, another loop. Drive same loops for parcel delivery. CPC has now also instituted an "On Demand Pick Up" for parcels/packets until 4pm for these depots. So, a postie may have to drive a long ways to do their pick up, turn around, go back to where they were and continue. All outgoing mail must be back to the depot before 5pm so that it can make it to the truck to the sorting plant.
When they've been building the routes, CPC has over reached in their estimations as to how much can be delivered in a day by 1 postie. Most SSD depots are refusing to work overtime to prove a point - hence the multiple days of mail piled up waiting for delivery.
