Bye Bye Tommy boy Ford kicked out!!

Just to disprove two of your points with one stone, Adam Giambrone got crucified by the media for personal reasons and he was a lefty. And Rob Ford displayed his distaste for media scrutiny on that occasion, well before he ever decided to run for mayor.

I don't think there's a single human being on the planet left who hasn't admitted to smoking pot. You have to compare apples to apples.

Adams sex scandal did hit top news. No dount. even to the point of resignation. (I was in his ward actually.) Come to think of it ward 18 hadn't had any luck since silva.
I still dont think they weren't as rough on him as Ford but hey.

And I was comparing apples to apples. I find humor is the attempted controversy that surrounded fords pot charge in comparison to Trudeau. At least that didnt sway peoples votes in Toronto though.

He was convicted of impaired operation of a vehicle (actually refusing a breath sample, which is essentially the same thing), in Florida. He was convicted of the possession charge.

Oh I know he was convicted of the dui, never disputed that. The possession I thought was dropped but I could be wrong.

They brought up his rap sheet, his drunken abusive rant at the ACC, his charge of spousal abuse, all to illustrate the pattern that we clearly see today (which is directly relevant to his performance as mayor, or any job for that matter).

If only people had paid attention at the time, but here you are along with Ford Nation, STILL making excuses for his severely incapacitating faults and STILL blaming the media.

In a way I understand, because in order for you to acknowledge that Ford is a failure and a lout, you have to start questioning your whole world view and that's pretty hard for anyone to do after a certain age. But the evidence is that he is in fact a thug, an impetuous abuser, a man with one rule for others and one for himself. If you can't acknowledge any of that then what does that say about you?

I will admit that The Star has lost my confidence, in recent years, due in no small part the the method of reporting that they have come to use. I will also admit that they still have one of the best investigative reporting staffs in the country and have been almost completely right when it comes to Ford. My sticking points are in the way that they have pursued Ford, not that they have, and I feel they misreported the supposed incident involving the alleged assault of one of his players, on the Don Bosco team. When all involved said that it never happened, they likely should have stepped back from it.

It's not apples to apples unless you ignore the supporting evidence against Ford of spouse abuse, drunken abuse of strangers in public, drinking and driving. I mean you can choose to make the the argument as narrowly focused as you want, say that Trudeau and Ford are both male Canadian politicians but Trudeau is slim and Ford is fat so it's all about his appearance. That doesn't make it apples to apples!

Actually I am incorrect. The marijuana charge was eventually dropped during plea bargaining, that resulted in a guilty plea on failure to provide a breath sample.

Of course not, because Giambrone took the hit and left politics. Ford denies, hides, accuses, evades any responsibility. All the while, he's out digging a bigger and bigger hole in his personal life! That's like catnip to reporters (I mean real reporters, not Warmington and Levy).

Actually I agree with you fully. I do not support ford and other then his financial stances in direct relation to counsel expenditures I dont support most of his views.

I have said things along that line a few times. There is no need for personal attacks on me because of my political views.

The media attention on ford has been his fault. There is no doubt. I just feel that the attention on him has been extreme in some cases.

All im trying to get across is the fairness in media.

off topic but take a look at adam giambrone and jack layton. Same political party, different levels of government.

Adams sex scandel led to him resigning from office and iirc being barred from running provincialy (not sure on that)

Layton gets caught with his pants down in a known whore house and has statues erected (pun) for him after his death.

I just think that all or no politicians should be put under the same fine tooth comb.

I think this post may have commented on all points geared towards me.

It's not about supporting Ford, it's about justifying his behaviour. And you have done exactly what I accuse you of; taking one narrowly focused comparison of two complex issues and treated them as an apples-to-apples comparison. And this, to support your pre-existing viewpoint that the media is biased. You're fitting the evidence to match your theory.

I am choosing to focus on the areas they can be compared, Pot and angry outbursts, and the different views people have on it due to who ford is and who Trudeau is. Otherwise there is no comparing them. Although I do not like Trudeau he would be a better rep to be in the limelite.

Another side note. Anyone else already sick of the "won't sombody think of the children" attack ads.

It doesn't work that way!

You have to look at everything in context otherwise you can justify absolutely anything at all by just eliminating the elements of a story you don't want, and leaving just some tiny sliver of fact that may have absolutely no bearing on the argument.

I don't believe I have justified his behavior, and if I have it was a mistake. His behavior is embarrassing as is most other politicians, fords is just the worst I can remember.

The media has always been politically biased (mainly print). Its not a view point. Its a fact. The ford reign has just made a more clear division of which is which.

I thought you were defending his behaviour by blaming the media (probably because that's what Ford defenders do). If I misread your posts I apologise.

Agree that the media is biased, but using the examples you have and the methods you have, does not illustrate that point.

I figured I must have came off wrong somewhere and im probably not getting my correct point across. It makes sense in my head though. Just a bit tough to portray in writing.

The basic jist is media doesn't treat all politicians as equals. Ill use ford, Trudeau and pot as an example.

Ford.

The star makes it out like its the end of the world that prior to election ford smoked pot.

The sun asks for readers opinions and sweeps the topic under the rug.

Trudeau.

The star hails him a hero for being so honest and forthcoming about having smoked pot in the last few months.

The sun goes on a "wont sombody think of the children" bandwagon calling for his head.

I just want a paper to not have their opinions swayed due to who is in the headline. If the star is pro pot, they should be across the board. If the sun is anti pot they should be across the board.

I should add that pot really has no bearing on me what so ever. I am in-different towards it as is does not affect me in the least.

I hope this got my comparison across better. If not I just give up. Lol.
