Brampton? Where to live or not to live

Went to visit the aunt a few weeks back who lives in Brampton. The guy next to me in the right hand lane opens up his driver window and proceeds to hock a loogie. The wind catches it and sprays it on my passenger front window. Good thing it was up.

That will learn me for crossing Hwy 50 from the east.

I noticed references to sections , G, F, M etc. Is there a map showing these lettered sections? Been living here for a little over a year. Been working here for 8.

All that you have to do is pull up a map of Brampton and look at the areas that are (for the most part) north of Steeles and east of Dixie, and you'll see that there are regions where all of the streets start with the same letter. These are Bramalea's 'sections.' Dumbest idea ever. No one could ever find your house, because all of the street names sounded the same.

I just found this thread. I've been living in North York since 2006 and after 7 years of my husband convincing me to buy a house, I finally said yes about 2 weeks ago, put down a deposit for a new house at Bovaird and James Potter Road. I don't know much of Brampton but after doing 2 days of intensive research there's positive and negative views. The main reason why I agreed: It takes hubby from an hour 30 mins to 2 hours to get home everyday and takes only about 30-45mins to get to work. Also, I work downtown and I can take go station from Mount Pleasant. After reading all the threads, I am so confused whether to go ahead with the purchase or just forget about it. The other reason why I want to move...North York (White/Russian area) is changing. I see more South Asian/Jamaican (not being racist) people moving into the neighbourhood..btw...I'm Asian too (part Chinese/part Malay).

Your best bet is to actually go up there and talk to a couple of your prospective neighbours. No one will know the specific neighbourhood like they will. Some areas up that way are sketchy and others are fine.

So because North York is changing with more South Asians/Jamaican's, you decide to escape that by moving to Brampton which has a very high concentration of south asians? The only motivation I see for leaving North York for Brampton is cost of housing or maybe exiting the increasing congestion in certain parts of North York. North York is big and their are big demographic differences depending on where you are in North York. I would not really say there are any more south asians/Jamaicans in north york than there were when I was a kid.

I live very close by. Williams and Chingcousy. Pm me if you have specific questions. The west end of btown isn't as bad as the east IMO. Lots of Indians and Jamaicans if that bothers you. I'm fine with that. Lots of bikes at Bovaird and Chingcousy. Kind of the spot for the north.

I've never been to Brampton till 2 weeks ago when I put down the deposit for the new house. I don't mind a well-mixed culture area but to have them concentrate in one area is not good. Houses in North York goes from $799k and up..the builders are not building anymore houses just townhouses....i live on steeles/bathurst area...to be honest....the other reason why I want to move is b/c someone in the Council decided to build 365 units of affordable housing. Mind you, I've worked in the social housing sector and do not agree with all their policies. I do agree to help those in need for maybe a year or two but then get off the welfare system and get a job like all of us. Stop wasting taxpayers money. There I said it..sorry about venting out....when I came to Canada more that 10 years ago, I was hired as an articling student for $5 per day and did not complaint, worked hard and moved up the ladder. Sorry again for venting out...

This thread has very good potential.

Listening to your concerns, maybe you'd be better off moving to York region - Thornhill, Vaughan, Woodbridge, Maple, Richmond Hill. If you pick the right pocket, you can still find reasonably affordable homes that will probably appreciate faster than homes in Brampton. Plus, with the TTC expanding north and with YRT/Viva revamping their network, transit downtown is also better. If you moved to woodbridge, you'll eventually be able to catch a TTC train into the city from Hwy 7 & 400 area.

Or have you ever thought of Kleinberg? Its sort of sandwiched between woodbridge and brampton and they are building new homes there. Lookeup "impressions at Kleinberg" the builders are Fieldgate Homes, Arista and one other I can't remember.

That area of Brampton is a new up coming area....you have walmart and huge shopping plaza's for your groceries etc close to you. I suspect the parking demand at that GO STAIN willl go up drastically ones those homes on Mississauga road are built and occupied.

That is a brand new area of Brampton, and as of now you are west of the bad section.

You will find traffic congestion more at certain times of the day due to the GO station right there. In a few years it will all be built up with its own problems im sure ..
One thing that will be a huge draw for people is the big shopping mall slated to go in at Hertiage and Bovaird.

Why dont u move to Markham. U want to mingle with your own kind, right?

Sent from my Phone, dont judge the grammar

doesn't seem like it. There are many chinese people out there (including myself and my folks) who like a more culturally diverse neighborhood.

My parents live in the Bayview/16th ave avenue pocket of houses which back in the day was very diverse but is now overrun by chinese and persian foreigners. They're looking to move to Thornhill now. I myself live in the east end of Markham and have noticed the southeast asian community to be growing and moving upwards to the north to as far as stouffville...thinking about relocating to vaughan myself (my brother lives on the border of vaughan and richmond hill whic his predominantly a jewish area, but has a bit of everything). I have the feeling that any region with a heavy concentration of ANYTHING has an adverse effect on property values. Also, this has more to do with the fact that many of these minorities are first gen immigrants (meaning they are freshly landed immigrants and don't understand the way of life most Canadians embrace).

DO NOT move to brampton if you dislike living around a predominantly south asian/brown/black community. I would stick to North York (maybe more towards the south east area near yonge and eg?), Vaughan, Thornhill, and certain parts of RH.

How about buying up the land around you so you don't have to have people around you at all. There are plenty of these houses on Elgin mills east of warden to mccowan.

I have lived in Brampton (Chinguacousy & Williams pkwy) for the last 16 years. I am happy to be here. lots of new restaurants have popped up. A lot of times my hubby and I walk back from pubs in the middle of the night. So far I feel safe living here. Someone who visited us had left the car unlocked in the driveway and the car was safe the next day. Sometimes I leave my door unlocked...I do feel safe living in the area...The car traffic is high and many bad drivers driving through my street...other than that I don't have any complaints...
