You can do a quick and dirty, but you said they’re doing that for $5k a year. That doesn’t add up.Well, hey, I guess we’re doing it wrong as we’ve been doing a 35’er in about 60 minutes for close to 10 years now.
Hull blasting is someone else’s job and admittedly no included in that time But it’s not getting a 6 hour wash, that’s for sure.
Zincs are a quick inspection. Yep, they’re there. Replace when needed. Doesn’t seem to need them regularly.
It doesn’t get shrinked as it’s stored inside, and at a place near enough to the marina that the top doesn’t even need to come off or even be folded down.
I don’t count repairs like bellows and such as part of winterization, those are repairs. Separate line entry.
Sounds like this is one of the differences between “fancy yacht club owner with deep pockets” vs “owner operator willing to get hands dirty and not throwing money around” marina boat owners.
Slip and storage at Scugog is $4500 for a 30’ if you have a trailer. Cheap Oil, filters, antifreeze is going to be $150. A pressure wash on a 30’ is going to be $6/lft below the waterline and .50 above. That’s another $450. If you don’t own a trailer, add another $400 lift & launch.
Winter maintenance includes inspecting and servicing critical systems. This include drive seals and bearings, zincs, cable linkages, at haul out. Otherwise yours looking at outrageous repairs if those item fail in season.
Bottom paint is a 3 year max plan, $30/lft is another $1000, or $330/year.
You’re storing unwrapped, so you can defer the cleaning cost till spring, either way it’s still part of annual maint costs.
You can do cheap, quick and dirty winterizations. Skip a hull cleaning, pay 20% more in fuel. Skip rotating system maintenance, you will pay with in season downtime and 3x repair costs. Fool yourself by not accounting for the incendentals and it all works!
When you hear the bad stories about heavy boat ownership costs, they are always linked to poor or cheap and dirty maintenance.
