This is pretty great. I often carry around my FM tuner and I'd prefer to have everything in one device. At the same time I've been reluctant to jump onto Android (Note II had an FM tuner) because there's basically no security. But on a BB phone, I'm guessing that any malicious Android code would be useless? Can anyone confirm?
Very good question!
Here is a response from the guy who helps run CrackBerry.com and knows BB inside and out.
"Depends on where you download from really however, AndroidonBlackBerry 10 doesn't run like well... AndroidonAndroid. Android apps onBlackBerry 10 run in a more secure environment and essentially any spyware/malware looking to run on your device will have issues as it's looking for an 'Android' set-up whereas the Android portion of BlackBerry 10 is different.
It's all emulated and full of sym links, if spyware/malware is looking to exploit your device it's looking for Android specific things to exploit which, it can have trouble finding. Think of it like this.... a Windows virus can't run on a Mac because it was designed for Windows. While you might be able to download it, it can never work at its full potential because it's running in a different environment than what is intended.
Still, you shouldn't be downloading random APK files and installing them, you should stick to trusted resources such as APK downloaders for Google Play, the Amazon App Store and apps such as Droid Store for BlackBerry 10 and Snap for BlackBerry 10. Downloading from random sites is never a good practice."
I'd like to add to this, there are "trusted" app stores such as Snap (which is a front for the Google Play store), the Amazon App store (yes mega giant Amazon, and they have publicly stated they welcome BB10 owners to download their apps) and Aptoide (run by BB10 enthusiasts who personally check and approve each android app that runs flawlessly on BB10). Otherwise, there are lots of unknown sites with .apk files that you can download, but you don't really know whats on those files, increasing your risk.
