Bikes with character...

You okay with a 33" seat height? Nice bike.

I heard it was tall also but I guess it’s so narrow I’m ok almost flat footing both feet.

Didn’t actually ride it but fit and finish looked top notch. Way better shape than that last Ducati 821 I saw.

Start at post 27 for todays MS.

Oh boy...think I found my character...stay tuned.

EDIT: False alarm...dammit.

EDIT #2: got all excited and didn't see it was the wrong model compared to what I was looking for. Subtle difference...but costly difference. Thanks to GTAM member for figuring it out and preventing me from a big mistake.

Hmmm. This thread and the search for a bike with Character started May 25th. A famous motorcyclist once said "But you come to a point in your life when you can’t pull the trigger anymore.”

Time to pull the trigger.

Don't be forgetting the dreaded "lapse" in insurance.
I was just reading in the ins section........one month.......it used to be six.

I'll call TD later and confirm, as I remember it was 6 months when I spoke with them b/w the Rebel 500 and the X. Although thinking back now...was closer to a year or so.

wtf? You lose all accumulated knowledge and experience in a month off the bike? That's BS. Hell, 80% of Ontario riders are probably off the bike for six consecutive months every year.

I have no f'n clue how they get away with it.
"Continuous coverage". I had five years ('14-'19) off because I was sick. I still had auto coverage, and used that in my argument......to no avail.

Allstate is apparently 1 day

OK...had about 30min to kill so I called TD and asked a few things....

#1 - there is no 'gap' in experience with them, so long as I stay with them as I've been w/ TD for over 11 years. So...1-2-5-6 months without a bike doesn't matter (I asked the guy to put that in the file)

#2 - Annual insurance
2015 Ducati 821 - $1700
2018 Yamaha XSR700 - $1180
2018 Suzuki VSTROM650XA - $1190
2015 HD Sportster 883 - $1070
2015 Moto Guzzi V7 Racer - $752
2012 Ducati Monster 796 - $1110

Previous:
2007 Ducati Monster 797 - $1069
2019 Ducati Scrambler - $1043

That 821 looks to be further and further out of reach.

My experience with a gap in riding history is that if you insure other vehicles with the same company, they may take that into consideration when giving you a motorcycle quote.

I was away from Canada for close to 8 years, no CDN insurance in all that time. Came back and called Wawanesa to insure a new truck and an old motorcycle.

For the bike they quoted me less than the rate I was paying 8 years earlier. It was as if I had no gap in riding history.

The truck, on the other hand, was more expensive than anywhere, but the two combined was still a lot cheaper. That's probably where they made their money. I always wondered if I had canceled the truck policy and took that somewhere else whether they'd raise the motorcycle rate? But we moved to BC a couple of months later, so moot point...

Now I'm paying through the roof for everything out here. 😪
