Bikes with character...

@mimico_polak
Desmo isnt as big of a deal as it seems, ducati owners are chill and more than happy to answer any questions or help if you ever need it. (especially if you do the work yourself)

If you're concerned about the cost of the Desmo service and don't want to do it yourself, get some quotes from the actual place you intend to get it done (I recommend Ken), but be sure they know exactly which model you have. The Desmo service on my 998 was only about 4 hours partly because I had him only do the valves and belts while I did everything else myself, and partly because the bodywork and tank come off in less than 5 minutes. On something like the Hypermotard, it takes a lot longer and you're paying the same hourly rate to remove and replace bodywork as you do for the complicated stuff, plus all that stuff has to come off to change the air filter and plugs so you end up getting them to do everything.

I do everything in my power to do all work myself.
Hence, my first Ducati is an air cooled 2V monster. It has it's quirks, but it's really easy to work on. Did my own belts and desmo check last year.

^^^This. I put 40,000 trouble-free km on my 2016 Multistrada 1200S and had Ken do my desmo service and it was $800 all-in and like you're saying there's a lot of bodywork to come off and I just let him do that.
As for parts I only ever had to replace normal wear items and they were on par with Japanese bikes price-wise and always easy to get. Couple recalls over that 40,000km and was never without my bike for more than an hour (used time wisely to peruse GPbikes).

Who is this ‘Ken’ everyone is mentioning….

Don't get a Ducati if you don't know Ken!

He was a factory trained Ducati mechanic at GP Bikes back when they had good service, then opened up his own shop. Before Ken, I was taking my bike to Montreal to Guy Martin. I don't trust anyone else around here, although some guy named Giovanni seems to get good reviews.

That's who did my Desmo & rear tire ... will even drive to your place with a trailer in tow and do it there and he allowed me to watch and help.

Problem was when the good part of actually checking the valves was going on I was out getting some veal sandwiches for us both. Doh!

Up to that point it seems pretty straight forward.

Make a note - order three veal sandwiches ahead of time and invite me too next time.

Think I can join the 'Distinguished Gentlemen's Ride' with this type of bike....

@Jayell has posted some similar ones.

Rode out to apex today looking for a couple of bike for my kids, They have a few bikes in the building.

Might be worth checking them out
Did ya buy anything? I’m a big fan of the 300cc class from Honda as beginner bikes.

The CB300F, CB300R and CBR300 are all great.

I was looking for the CB500X and also looked at the CB300R.
CB300R would be an excellent 1st bike. Lots and lots of torque.1st gear fuelling is pretty trash. But smoothed out for 2nd.

We use them at our lots for students.

Surely this is just about as much character as you can get in a bike.

Sucks.

Beautiful bike tho. Whoever buys one has great taste!

"This should be under warranty but I am going to take it apart myself and post evidence on youtube" could be a ridiculously expensive lesson. If ducati got really annoyed at you, I could see them behaving like ferrari and slow-rolling parts you need for the bike.

Influencers, enough said.
This guys gonna try to milk a minor issue for views when he can just take a very expensive bike to the dealer, where its covered under warranty?
